POLL: To Move or Not To Move?

Archive: 36 posts

Hi All,

I've been busy beavering away on my BTTF Levels for quite some time now. I want it to be really accessible to every one but have been messing with Move, and have some spiffy ideas.

Anyways who on the forums owns a Move?

I too possess the mighty move controller! sometimes late at night when everyone is in bed, I put on my cardboard armor and raise the Move triumphantly over my head and declare, "I HAVE THE POWER!" then my wife wakes up, comes in and yanks the controller from my hands and sets my cardboard armor on fire. she doesn't like to be awakened by yelling at 2 am.2012-03-01 15:08:00

We have 2 motion controllers.
Had to, with three people who play it was a must.

Now I really feel left out, since I don't own a move controller.

Maybe, since you want your levels tobe accessible to a larg(er) crowd, you could make a move and non-move versions of the levels, but that's purely up to the creator.

It's not about exclusion, I want to do some stuff that move would perfect for, and I guess this poll is more about how many LBPCers have move to work out the best create plan. I think of Ria's Mm picked Printz. It has both move and normal controls. But let's just say that there was a part that would not really work unless it's move.

This information will actually help all creators if we get a good idea of players with Move it makes it heaps eaiser to decide how much time to spend on particular features.

I'm having a problem with your poll. You're asking a site where a large amount of dedicated creators come on, this site does not represent LBP community as a whole so course the dedicated creators have a move. You can have a move controller but it doesn't mean you use it. If your poll was, do you use a move controller, I bet you would have gotten a vastly different response.

Also consider this;
http://lbp.me/search?t=cool&g=move
There is the LBP Move cool pages, top level (time of writing) of the LBP move pages only has two plays, yes two plays. So as you can see, not a lot of people are actually using it, compared to how many own it. There's cold hard information any creator can use.

Hmmm food for thought, and a really great observation!

I guess this is a question of do LBPC members have a Move that they could create with. I sort of live on this site and only really thought of it as creating for this smaller subset of LBP rather than everyone. It could limit plays of the level, but as a project I hope that there was a large group on here that could play at least.

I wish I had a Move controller. So many things I can't get right now, and other things I'm missing out on. Also want to get more DLC, but that's a story for another day. Let's just say that LBP is going to murder my wallet once I get money.

I think the vast majority of PS3 owners don't have the Move, thanks to it largely being a pointless gimmick, and a costly one at that.

I'm in the camp of people that own a Move, but don't enjoy using it in levels.
I own it for the paint tool and some of the other creation tools, but I'm yet to get the Pin for playing 5 Move levels. - I already own a Wii and got extremely bored of it, I don't feel too compelled to play even more gimmicky levels and mini-games.

I can't imagine I'm the only Move owner who feels this way. So even if there is a higher percentage of people with a Move in the more experienced LBP crowd, there's every possibilty that not everyone who happens to own a Move, is still interested in playing levels that require it.
However, for your level, I'd just be sure to set it up so that players who have a Move can do so, but keep it functional with the standard Controllinator. If Move users have a slight edge over Controller users, then so be it.

Well as you know i have one but like Ostler i don't really like to use it as it is sometimes awkward in levels and all the hassle of setting it up is annoying as well.
If a level that uses move only uses it some of the time then i think its a little more annoying then a level that uses it throughout the whole thing. So unless the whole level will use it a lot then i wouldn't recommend it really.

For creation though for me at least it is a must have. It is the tool i would definitely recommend.

You could try to make a system where both move and the normal controller can do the same things. Just have a controlinator that can be activated in game to work like move. May help make the level more accessible to everyone. Not sure though.

Two really great points... I think a lot of people create with Move, but maybe just for stickers and stuff. I guess the question still stands though, but it does add another layer.

Like Do You Have a Move controller that you can create with?

Is that a better question to see how accessible a level could potentially be?

this is a really good topic with good feedback. I'm working on a level and it was suggested to me to make it a Move level, which will completely change the gameplay. I think what I'll do is make it both Move and 6 axis to reach a wider audience. Like I said, I have the move but actually haven't used it since maybe January.2012-03-03 00:59:00

I have Move, but I never use it, so its hardly ever charged.

I have a couple of levels that will incorporated Move, but will be Siaxsis only. Not going to waste my time on a Move only level.

I actually liked the Move pack levels and would rather use Move only in the levels since it is much more precise. However, I know making a Move only level severely limits accessiblity.

Too bad MM couldn't give us hybrid controls.

Oh well.

i have MOVE but only really got it for the MOVE pack. i just can't be bothered to keep moving the chair further away from the TV so that the flipping camera can see me properly and i certainly don't want to be standing up when i play.

I do have a move, but right now it's gathering dust on the back of my sofa. While it is a great piece of technology, it is far too costly, and the only thing I'd consider getting for it would be the move pack. I also feel that it's a bit of a pain that every time I want to play a move level, I have to turn it on, stand up in front of the PSEYE, hold the move button down for several seconds, THEN I can start to play. I just think it breaks the flow, is all.2012-03-03 06:46:00

Nope. Not worth buying a controller+add-on, a camera, and an expansion pack for one single game, even if that game is LBP2. I get to buy 2 games with the money that the Move+pack thing would cost.2012-03-03 08:25:00

My opinion is don't let your creativity be suppressed by worrying about who can play the level. Build the level to a standard that you personally enjoy and if anyone else likes it, consider them as a bonus. For example, myself and friends entered cc14 with a move entry knowing that we were unlikely to get the public vote... we ended up winning and now have spiffing pins XD. I love using the move controller but the only issue is lack of levels that support move only features... so I say go for it.2012-03-03 12:02:00

I am working on a level, and it's going to be the bestest level evar!!! It'll use the move and 6-axis, as soon as I can figure out how to do that.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-O2QSVuH1tFQ/T1Jl16k812I/AAAAAAAABc0/cT44l3NqQs8/s530/how-to-protect-your-virginity.jpg

back on topic, I'm wondering if I should even incorporate the Move. From my playing habits I know that I'm reluctant to plug in the Move if I come across a Move enabled level. I know it's no big hassle, just have to plug in the camera and charging cable, but still. I'll probably still do just because I think with what I'm doing it will be easier to play with the Move.

Hmm... it seems from reading the response to this, there are lots of move owning members that like creating with move to some extent.

But because of the the lack of ownership in the greater community making a move only level does limit plays because it's a a hassle to set the move up when you come across a stage that has it.

Although Mm does prove that Move can be fun there just doesn't seem to be many levels that take advantage of it.

Well, i have move but i dont tend to use it. Regular controllers make playing games easier. the one thing i do like about the move is the motion recorder. its good for movies and cutscenes in certian levels.2012-03-03 20:42:00

@PPp_Killer Wrong page, try this http://lbp.me/search?g=move&t=busiest.

Also, Move levels are pointless.

You could do what I did and make a level that is accessible for Move and non-Move players (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=65285-Snow-Place-Like-Home) (shameless plug yay!).

However, judging by the responses here and from my level, people aren't that fond on it. Shame, the few Move levels I have played have been very entertaining. I do agree, I do sometimes sit there thinking "well the Move is over there, and I'm here..." though.

Lol I know sometimes I want to make a sticker and I get the Move and then realise the camera is no plugged in. And it's like 'hmmm... I'll make it later'

Same with levels, it looks interesting and I'll queue it but it's like... Aw man the move is over there.

It looks as if many people have one and do create with it but move specific levels have very low traffic. Which is a shame because the brain crane is a pretty fun powerup.

LOL, same usage here.

I'm usually waiting to collected several move levels in my queue, then (reluctantly) clean the dust off move controller and use it for few minutes. Then, back to dust again. Sad story. I have 2, cause expected a lot more use.

I thought about getting a move just for LBP. but the last time i bought a bit of ps3 kit just to use on LBP it SUCKED (playstation eye)
the camera on the 6 year old phone stuck at the back of my oblivion drawer has a better camera than that thing.
the quality you get in LBP is just awful. I had visions of taking pictures of my drawings and importing them in and making some cool stickers... that vision lasted all of 10 seconds.

Though now you have a PS Eye, the Move will be cheaper as you don't need to buy another one ;D

It's not 'disappointing' for LBP, but I wouldn't buy one just for LBP. Luckily, my dad got ours for Sports Champions, which also gets hardly any plays. It's a bit annoying how they made a massive fuss of it then stopped supporting it a year in. Oh well, business an' all.
