Sackboy & the Bug

Archive: 10 posts

A single player platformer with set in which sackboy undertakes a journey from sadness to happiness thanks to the kindness and re-assurance of some helpful new friends...secrets to uncover and some bonus points too.

Hi))) Pictures look good. I'm queuing it.

PS Sometime later...

Ok, I played your level, and overall impression is nice. My suggestion would be to fix your camera view. Using 3D glitch we have to be really careful, because it is still a glitch and it's far from perfection. When the top layer of the ground flashes through the screen, revealing that it's not actually a ground, but a very thin layer of pixels with emptiness inside of it, it ruins the whole impression. I think it should be very fixable by cameras. Where it's impossible, 3d part must be changed to a regular 3-layer condition. Also on those rotating wheels (on that wall where the jumpers with frogs are), camera goes spinning together you and it doesn't feel right.

Now the good news))). The idea is very nice, graphics is nice to see, nothing is irritating. Pretty fun as you go through. I especially liked that butterfly part, little friendly froggies show you where to go - nice. THE SLUG! Oh! This cute little jelly slug is such a neat idea! I loved it, it made me smile. Nice, creative, I like the plot that you have to save cute little bugs))).

Just needs a little bit camera balance - and we'll call it a very good level of a creator with great potential.

thanks for the nice feedback Tinochka. glad you enjoyed the theme and story.
Still fine tunning those cameras, always twitchy when using extra layers, eventualy I'll get them spot on. They're the reason it's best played in single player for optimum playing experience. I'll check your level tonight and post some feedback.

Thanks for feedback on my Overwatch lvl. Having trouble seeing controls? You can zoom in on it by selecting it. Looks good ill add to queue an play later. At the moment it seems that PSN is down.------------------------------Nice level ! Everything a great platformer should have. good original story, very detailed, and creative characters (snail for example) Only negative is some cameras like stated above. Other than that very nice platformer.2012-03-05 02:05:00

Thanks for the feedback, I hope more folks take a look at overwatch as it's a very good level you created, deserving more plays.

I'm glad you enjoyed the story and characters as that was the starting point for this levels construction.
I managed to address the camera issues today by reducing foreground areas and increasing the player tracking. Still best payed in single player though.

I like this level, but there were a few annoying bugs that happened to me.
1) When you free the caged sackbot, and he tells you to keep him close, he actually didn't follow me down. I had to go through the whole first area again, and slap him down with me. Fortunately, I was able to go behind the rock that was supposed to block that area. Maybe have him follow a tag if a player sensor detects you in that lower area, just in case he's being dumb?
2) When you reach the spiders, I flew the sackbot that you grab onto right into the mouth of one of the spiders, and he died. The fly-pads still allowed me to beat the boss (it was very difficult, though), so maybe have him respawn if he dies? Or he could be indestructible...

Other than those two bugs, it was a nice level with its own unique feel. There was heavy use of decorations, though, which was good for atmosphere but bad for platforming.
