Pocket Moon Podcast Episode 10

Archive: 37 posts

Hidy Ho Sackfolks! I'm here to let you know that Episode 10 of Pocket Moon Podcast is live, and we have a special guest for you this time: Mnniska! If you have been hiding under a rock and aren't aware of who Mnniska is (hopefully it was a nice rock), he has interned with Tarsier studios (creators of LBP for Vita), he went to the LBP Vita Game Jam, and he has been recognized many times over with rewards for his creations in LBP.

On this podcast you will hear us talk about Sackbots and whether they help or deter the LBP2 experience, Ponies, you'll get to hear some incredible Mnniska voice acting, and Mnniska and Tom will give impressions of the Vita while I sit in the corner and cry since I don't have one yet.

As usual, you can access the podcast a number of ways, and we have added a new way, Soundcloud:

Its great! I'm really surprised about how good the graphics are. I'm having a blast with both of my games so far and I'm pretty excited for LBP Vita and the Mortal Kombat for Vita, so I can't wait for those games to come out.

How about you?

How about you?LOVE it! I haven't even gotten to Uncharted or Little Deviants yet because I'm totally hooked on Wipeout and Lumines. Oh, and I'm also obsessing over 100% completion on Escape Plan too.

Thanks for listening Random! I hope you enjoy episode 10 and are not too offended by what we have to say about Mortal Kombat.

As for the pizza... I'll have to ask Tom about that one.

Cool, Uncharted is pretty nice game, while I heard that Little Deviants is pretty much a glorified tech-demo. I'm entertained by Escape Plan also, but it's going to take awhile for 100% completion because I'm pretty bad at puzzles.

Yup :-) He was awesome! Loved getting to open the podcast with Mnniska's voice acting for a pony. Excellent editing work by Tom starting it off like that :-) Also, Tom's getting a bit happy with the censor button ;-)

it's going to be interesting to see if this community embrace Sound Shapes too. it could do for music games what LBP did for platformers

Excellent podcast!

I'm glad you explained in detail what the 3 free vita games are. I'm a big fan of AR, and that just made me want the vita even more. (which I didn't think was possible)

I laughed so hard when Mnniska's phone went off and when Tom talked about his Game Jam flashback.

It would be awesome if I could be a guest on one of your podcasts!

Downloaded. I enjoyed your game jam show and looking forward to listening to this one.

I do have one silly complaint though, why are there images under the links? I click on them every time and end up seeing the little graphic window with the jpg pop up. Doh!

I'm entertained by Escape Plan also, but it's going to take awhile for 100% completionJust got to 100% tonight. I didn't think I'd ever get 3 stars on all the levels but I just kept at it and eventually finished. Whew!

well I;m sorry guys but I gotta admit Sebastian is kinda stealing the show I couldn't agree more - it's awesome.

Also, Tom's getting a bit happy with the censor button ;-)Yep, I love it! It's like a shiny new toy - I can't resist.

@GribbleGunger: Yeah, I wasn't excited at all about SoundShapes when I first heard about it, but after seeing a trailer that showed what it does I am VERY intrigued!

@Xenon: Good question about those images not linking you. I'm going to have to mess with their formatting a bit more. When I use the exact same code on LittleBigLand or LittleBigPlanetarium it works just fine and those images link you to the audio for the podcast, but on here it just links you to an image for some reason???

I remember reading on here that LBPCentral's forum doesn't run the same newer version as the other forums. As a result, it lacks the ability to link anything in an image.

As for the podcast, I can't wait to listen to it. I do have some questions though. When do you think the next iteration of the PS Vita will arrive? What do you think could change with the system in this new version? I'm pretty convinced that I'm not going to buy a Vita, at least until a decent price drop occurs. Sure, I don't think the system itself is overpriced, but considering the price of memory cards, it's really a $300+ priced system. Call me crazy, but I don't think it's worth it...yet.

That's the first gameplay I've seen and it looks amazing! b-coli has been talking that one up for a while, and I totally see where he's coming from. I am definitely going to be picking that one up.

Yes, the AR is SUPER cool to play with, and there will be more stuff coming out for it. Here's a Sony vid that shows a couple of the other games. Exciting stuff!

Glad you enjoyed it valmassoi! We had a blast having him on the podcast.

On a completely different note, you tried to join me on LBP yesterday and I was unable to accept, and then a few minutes later I went to join you and was auto-rejected. I tried inviting you and then you immediately signed off. Hopefully we can meet up on LBP soon :-)

Great episode guys! Thanks for the mention! I did a marathon and listened to the Jam episode and this one. Information overload, speaking of info, I had no idea about Kickstarter! Thanks for the info and I already checked it out. That was awesome having Mnniska on and made for a very entertaining podcast, not that it isn't already very entertaining just, well, you know what I mean. You guys mentioned some info about the Vita that I didn't know about and I was very intrigued with this AR gaming, then I come here and see that vid. Wow, I have definitely got to get this Vita now!
Speaking of AR gaming, I used to do these Alternate Reality games one that I got into was called Majestic. This was probably 10 years ago, but a lot of the gaming revolved around deciphering code, finding hidden clues on fake websites, an "informer" would send you emails, phone calls and a neat aspect of it was that you would be given a number sometimes and would have to call it for more clues/info. Sometimes it would be another player across the country and you would have to work together to fit your clue in with theirs. You used to see a lot of AR games especially leading up to a big game or movie's release. There would be a small icon or something on the developer or studio's webpage and that would lead you on a big "scavenger hunt" or something.

So a question for you guys. E3 is coming up pretty quick. Do you have any predictions on what may be presented this year or what would you like to see. Do you think there will be anything worthwhile out of the Nintendo camp? Besides the Wii U which I'm pretty sure they will be promoting pretty heavily. Do you think they may show a better version of the 3DS?
What about the Sony group? Any predictions?
That's kind of a dumb question as I realize that you'd probably do an E3 show. Maybe I can come up with something later. When do you guys record the show?

Well, that's all I have. Great show and I enjoyed it immensely, thanks guys.

Thanks for the feedback biorogue, and thanks for the excellent questions for Mnniska's podcast as well as the E3 questions! I love speculating about E3 :-)

Interesting details about that AR stuff that you used to do. Did you have to pay to do it? Was it always organized around a major franchise (movie, game, etc...)?

No, not all of them correlated to a major release or franchise, although there were some big ones. You remember "I Love Bees"? An ARG game set up to create "buzz" over Halo. People were mailed jars of honey and directed to the I love bees website. It was pretty huge.

Nine Inch Nails, the rock band in case you didn't know, also had a pretty big ARG. That one was pretty cool. I explored it a little while

A.I. (the movie) had one. It was very cryptic and you had to pay real close attention to what was going on. It was discovered in the trailer for the movie. There was a small line in the credits and people started searching it and this whole big ball of twine just started unraveling.

Anyway, Majestic was different because it was an off the shelf game that you then paid, I think, $10 a month for. The game was episodic and when you bought it off the shelf, this was episode one. Each month a new episode would become available online. It kind of became problematic in that, sometimes you could finish the episode in a week or less, then have to wait and wait and wait until the next episode began. It was easy to get "sucked" into these, especially this one, as it had well made "news feeds" and "eye witnesses" and all these websites you had to visit and what not. It's considered a failure as far as ARG's go, but I liked it.
There was also one a few years later called Perplex? No..dang it..aaargh! It was Perplex something or other and had a cash prize of like 100K to whomever was the first to solve it.
There are still quite a few ARG games going. Everyone once in awhile I'll poke my head into the forums and see what's going on, or visit some ARG sites to see what's new.
http://www.unfiction.com/ and http://www.argn.com/ are some good sources.

I've always been curious about things such as "I Love Bees". I actually started trying to get into that but I wasn't even sure where to start when it was happening. It was really intriguing at the time because Halo 2 was such a HUGE deal and there was this hidden information somewhere.

It is cool that you have been involved in that sort of thing :-)

I finally was able to finish this and wanted to say I fully enjoyed it. LBP Vita has sparked my interest in the Little Big Planet again. I don't really have time to mess with it and my PSP won't connect to my network so this is a nice little fix for me.

It's interesting to hear about how people feel about sack bots. I put very little time in LBP2 other than finishing the Story mode. But I think I'd have to agree with the squeaky mouse guy and say that I like what they offer in terms of gameplay. But I can see the other side of argument. Most of what made the LBP and LBP PSP so cool for me was appreciating the levels as a creator. Maybe in LBP3 they'll let you use a corner editor on the sackbots.
