Star Wars: Episode 5

Archive: 15 posts

http://lbp.me/v/6hfq-cThis is a Single player level, but is can however be played with two players. It follows the story of Star Wars: Episode 5, and starts off in Dagobah where Luke learns the ways of the force. It will take you through Cloud City, and to the epic fight with Darth Vader. Features include:
- a controllable light saber
- sackbots complete with force powers (jump, speed, push, saber throw, and meditation which heals you)
- some of the best enemy AI that can be found in LBP2
- power ups that give you increased force power, and an upgraded lightsaber
This is my favorite level in my planet, and it will blow you away!!!http://ib.lbp.me/img/ft/b3b1f384c8ecff84abfcc881901d1961500c44ba.jpg

An lbp.me link perhaps? It would make it easier to find.2012-02-24 15:05:00

good post. My curiosity is certainly piqued so I will be queuing this level. One thing you could do to make the post even better is to utilize the LBP.me tool. By clicking on the LBP.me tool icon http://www.lbpcentral.com/images/lbpme.png it will produce this bit of code :
now put your level LBP.me in between that code like this:
http://lbp.me/v/6hfq-c
make sure that is your first line and it will pull the LBP.me information such as level badge, stats and description. Pretty awesome.

edit: Just was playing this. great visuals on Dagobah! good platforming. felt it could have been more in depth though. maybe some training with Yoda or something. Move rocks around, have to use the Force to lift the ship out of the swamp. The next stage looked fan-dang-tastic coming into sky city. good visuals here as well, but I felt that battling the bounty hunter was a little tough. I am a Jedi after all, well in training at least. Moving forward in the level, those little round vents that you have to jump on was very difficult to land and maintain balance on. maybe they could be a touch bigger or square? Then I got to the top and couldn't figure out what to do. Does it end, is there a level link that is suppose to activate, a scoreboard come down or something? Anyway, enjoyed what you have so far. good work and I really like that force jump, very clever.

I sort of agree with Bio, the mechanics you have are solid and fun, and the level design itself is top notch, but the it does feel a little empty, an area where you float and suspend rocks to make platforms would be great, but also a little useless considering you can traverse the entire level with the force jump...

It was a little over powered because you can do it in the air as much as you want, it also sort of makes the double jump redundant, your level has heaps of plays so it's not a huge gripe, but I sort of thought it made the game very simple, I spammed it until I landed at the end.

A level link broke on me I think as I got to the final door with R2 and it wouldn't load. I forced jumped up into the clouds and saw a locked level up there. An option to pop (kill) myself would have been useful. Not your fault as it was probably the level link bug...

hey man, i retracted the boo as it wasn't by me in the first place. I haven't got time to play it properly yet though. Even with the boos you get I still wish i had your number of people playing your level! 2012-02-25 12:49:00

It is a very good level too!

If you have time leave some feedback in his thread about what was good/confusing etc. Everyone likes getting the impressions of other players.

And try not to worry about boos... remember it was announced by Mm that they were going to be removed in the near future.

Well the idea of removing boos is exactly because of the feeling you get when you get them. No official word yet about when it would happen though.2012-02-26 02:54:00

I have played this and your Assassins Creed level and the logic in both is very impressive. The Sackbot AI in particular is very cool - the different moves you have all work really well. I have to say that this level was my favourite though. I think it's the added element of the story that just makes it more fun and engaging to play. I loved meeting Yoda and having the big duel with Vader and the encounter with the bounty hunter in Cloud City was great too. All of that plus the moments of humour make the player feel much more involved in the level. With Assassins Creed because it was more of an open roaming level (which I agree fits with the AC game more) I felt less engaged. This is all pretty subjective though so it may just be my personal preference.

Anyway, thanks for sharing. The Star Wars level was both impressive and fun to play.

The level linking seems to be working fine this time through, but the addition of ejecting the player at the spawn is a great thing to have for safety. I still found it pretty easy to continually force jump aver pretty much all of the level though. All up I liked the ending.

Also, thank you for the feedback on my level

The controls were nice, if a little overpowered. I agree that force jump basically eliminated the need for double jump. When fighting enemies, the repelled lasers were a nice touch (as I killed a few enemies with them).

Your cinematics are also excellent. Very nice staging and character interaction. I think this was the best part, besides finding hidden powerups way up in the sky.

As far as gripes, I have a few.
1) The world is very flat. Most of the time, it feels like you are running in a straight line. Some more variation might have helped the atmosphere.
2) Those flying flamethrower guys are invincible! I kept trying to beat them, using reflected lasers and my own lightsaber, but whatever I tried they would not die. I eventually just gave up and ran past them...
3) I don't think this level is for hardcore gamers only, or PG13. Nothing seemed particularly difficult when you could throw your lightsaber and force push the bosses. Plus, when you died you respawned in almost the same place, effectively giving you infinite lives.
4) The end cinematic seems a little anticlimactic. "Luke I am your father." is too boring. I would rather see "Luke...", then zoom in on Vader's face, "I am your FATHER!".

That being said, overall it is a nice effort, and a good multi-stage level with interesting new controls.

When you have the time, please review the level in my signature, and post in the LBPC thread.

Thanks for your feedback. It was really good, and inspired me to make some big changes! In fact, I'm redoing pretty much the whole jedi...lol. I'm trying to fix the problems of being too powerful. I'm making a new gauge too. I'm not sure how much I can do to the level design though. I suck at level design. I tend to focus more on gameplay.2012-03-03 21:35:00

Howdo shady,
just thought I shall throw in my 50 pence worth for ya

I liked the level ALOT.
I thought the gameplay complemented the jedi sackbots very well.
The intro was a nice touch.
If I had to give you some advice I would say make the level less linear, it just feels like you're either going up/down or left/right
Then the other one I could think of is only very minute but I would change yoda's instructions from 'push the left stick down' to 'push the left stick in' because I spent a while flicking the sticking down, rather than using it like L3 XD
But overall a fantastic level. loved the little jedi fights

If I could get your f4f on this level;

That would be fantastic, thanks!

This level was very cool. I can tell it took lots of work. Well done.
That said, I do have some thoughts. In the swamp, I couldn't tell if I was hurting Darth Vader. Eventually I just force pushed him into the water. The force jump would be cooler if it didn't use a bounce pad. Deflecting blasters is great, but it would be awesome if the basts were faster and if luke actually swang the light saber or held it in a block position, adding a bit of player timing.
