Sealed Fate - Chapter 2 (Action RPG)

Archive: 9 posts

Took me a while to get this done. Work in real life got too demanding and I barely had any time to work on this, but here it is at last.

The second part of the Sealed Fate saga!

The level obviously still features the fast action based combat from Chapter 1, with several new and unique monsters with varying attack patterns.

The optional content in this level consists of several puzzles and a very hard optional boss. One of the puzzles doesn't appear in the level unless you have done the prerequisite quest in Chapter 1 and import your progress by using the password.

Credits:
Special thanks to Qrii_Nakari for making the character portrait and inventory icons and alot of other artsy stuff.
Also thanks to coasterfreak1235 for making the logic for the 3D cube puzzle so I didn't have to spend time on that!
And last but certainly not the least; a very big thanks to Velvet--Audio and Arexion for the amazing music in this level.

And then some pictures! Must have pictures!

How do you input the password?

Select "Continue", place the screenshot of your password (if you have one) on the right side of the input area for reference.
Then just match the left side with your screenshot and you're done.

Well, needless to say (although I said it in my short review on the level), this level was fantastic. But! I'd be remiss if I didn't do some sort of detailed review, as I'm finding that I kind of enjoy doing them now. For those who haven't played, there are some slight spoilers!

Presentation: I still can't believe this can be made in LBP2. The first time I went through Chapter 1, I didn't even recognize the game I was playing. That feeling is alive and well throughout this level, as well. The desert is appropriately oppressive and sandswept, and the ruins ancient and crumbling; a place for everything, and everything in its place. I love the details you have in all of the menus, the character design is very good, and the enemy design is top-notch. The spell animations and enemy attack animations are very impressive, too. The transitions between frontal and top-down views aren't particularly jarring, and the transitions to cutscenes come off smooth.

Gameplay: There's definitely a learning curve to the combat, but I think I've gotten pretty good at it now after having played through the first part a few times. I'm not sure if I was being sloppy before or if it was some mechanical problem in Chapter 1, but I'm getting less accidental heal spells and more of the spells I want, haha. That being said, I'm really liking the new spells (the electricity spell is SICK!) and adding more enemies with immunity and resistances definitely ups the challenge and demands the player to play to the enemies' weaknesses. Heck, the new enemies themselves are dastardly in their own way and kept me on my toes.

As for the sidequests, the cube puzzle had me scratching my head for a bit, but I eventually cracked the code after messing around with it a little bit. The mirror puzzle in the desert was clever, and I must admit, I laughed at the name of the quest (Solaire would be proud! ) The hidden boss was unbelievable. I nearly died so many times, but I eventually managed to get a rhythm down between casting, using the barrier, and healing and overcame the odds!

The final bosses of this Chapter were very impressive. It took me a moment to figure out how to wear down the knight (so much was going on!), but once I did it was just a matter of staying alive and finding that rhythm I mentioned before.

Now, mind you, I was playing on Normal. I've got a 100% Master save from Chapter 1, and that giant Robbit fight is still giving me nightmares. I can only imagine how ridiculous it will be to try and beat Chapter 2 on Master. Oh, boy...

Story: Well told, and the intrigue, well, intrigued me! I really liked how it all played out, and since I'm trying to avoid story spoilers, I'll just say that after having finished Chapter 2, I'm excited for Part 3. What I will mention, though, is that the writing is very good, and the characters are still unique and likeable.

Music and SFX: Every theme works very well where it's used, and I really liked the two boss themes (there was a different boss theme for the hidden boss, right? I was too busy trying to stay alive to notice, but it sounded a bit darker than the other themes, haha). The sound effects all worked within their context.

Overall: A brilliant level, and I'll be sure to play through this again a few times, slowly preparing myself for *gulp* Master difficulty. There are very, very few complaints I can think of, and most are inconsequential and washed away by the overwhelming number of positive things I can say about this level. A Like and a Heart from me, and I'm waiting for Chapter 3 with bated breath!

Oh well, nice level
Beside saying it's awesome, I can't say anything else.
Oh yes, this is better than everything Sqaure-Enix did this gen.
Don't know if that's good or not though :s

(I love that Jade looks a lot like me in real life <3 )
