<averns of Eternity Part 1: Into the <aves (intro)

Archive: 7 posts

"<averns of Eternity Part 1: Into the <aves" (intro) is my first level (long name, I know... ), and I think I did a nice job on it.

You can look forward to a reasonably epic beginning, that I tried to make very cinematic and stuff. Nothing to groundbreaking, but I made a nice rain effect (that took up a huge amount of space!), and a great thundery atmosphere. The only problem is it can lag a bit if you don't have a really good connection, especially with multiple players.

It's reasonably short, and its main purpose is to introduce the story at the beginning, and create anticipation for the continuation at the end. I tried to make everything look very realistic, so there weren't any fancy contraptions or anything. The platforming is reasonably basic as well, but there are some great swinging bits.

I think I fixed up the vast majority of the glitches, but if you find any let me know!
Some things I hope to add in the future: --A sticker switch at the beginning of the level that allows you to skip the 'cutscene'. You would get the appropriate sticker at the end of the level, so you could skip it once you've played through it once. --Actual prizes in the prize bubbles!

Some things to look forward to in the next parts: more 'out-of-this-world' design, not so strictly realistic. Awe-inspiring graphics (hopefully ). The next levels will feel like a different world, within the <averns of Eternity. No idea when I'll get them done by, cause I'm short on time, but.... eventually

Anyways, I'd love feedback on the level. I worked really hard on it and spent many hours toiling away.

Also, I've already thought of an epic ending to the story, and something that is reasonably revolutionary and very original.

You need to fix this level pronto, I've never played a level that freezes like this, you have too much stuff somewhere... it's really distracting...

Edit: just finished the level and a little disappointed you didn't flesh out the story more. I guess I don't even really understand the story, I think you need to explain things a little better.

The root part was good and challenging but the lag brings everything down, it feels like I'm playing in slow-motion almost.

The beginning part was pretty cool but after that there really isn't much story.

Thanks for the constructive feedback! And so quickly too

Hmm... I really like all the effects and everything at the beginning though. Maybe I'll get rid of a bit of the rain...
What was it that was so distracting? Just the rain, or other stuff as well?
Also, I'm surprised how laggy it was for you (or how laggy it sounds like it was). For me it isn't really laggy at all. I know for other people it is often a bit laggy, but not to the point of freezing.

There lag at the root part? I'll have to spend some time making it so that the rain disappears after you enter the mountain.

Also, I'll try to flesh out the story a bit more. Make everything a bit clearer...

Looks like I have some more work to do before I can continue to part 2!

It honestly lagged the entire way through. The rain effects are cool.. but not worth ruining the entire experience. OF course I can't speak for everyone but my PS3 could not handle this level

EDIT: I didn't mean to come of negative. That opening cutscene was pretty ingenius and if I had the patience I would do it myself but it seems like that became the main focus of the level and maybe the gameplay took a backseat. I was still really impressed with that cutscene tho. and not because of the rain but just the camera movements and how you cut to each character talking.

Yeah so I guess I'll have to cut back on the rain a bit. And I'll spend some time getting the rain to disappear when you enter the mountain.

Thanks for the compliments as well
And you're right, the gameplay did take a back seat a bit. I plan to make the next levels much more involved in terms of gameplay.

Oh and I'll shamelessly plug my series (Little Big Apocalypse) and say check out the first episode. The reason I checked out your level so fast is cause you described it how I would describe my series ...and I was like woooah like-minded individual!... . ..

but seriously I"m interested in hearing your opinion of my first level (episode)

Haha sure. Consider it done.

...Well, not really. But it's written down on my list of levels to play
