Code Red [Alpha 1.1]

Hello there, I'm currently in the process of refining, and modifying gameplay mechanics for my level Code Red. (Well, it isn't really fair to call this "my" level since, while it's on my planet, hairybones1997 is responsible for the musical score.) Currently, I've released a little "public alpha" of the level, which is the level being showcased in this thread. Everything is moving along at a nice pace, and I already have certain things planned out for version Alpha 1.2 which I plan to release next weekend, but I haven't received too many plays or reviews on the level. For those with enough time, please take that time to play my level give feedback. Constructive criticism is appreciated, thanks!

I rather enjoyed this. I thought that the style was nicely done. I do think that the Shot Gun is waaaay over powered, it was very easy to zone out and just hold fire to kill everything in sight. The grenade launcher needs to be looked at as you have a physical emission from it and it can be blocked. Um yeah... over all I think it could be shorter as it did sort of drag on a little, maybe ramp up the levels faster.

Also some sort of re-load counter would help add to the level as it's not very difficult. And even though it may go against you theme I think that the main character could be a little more interesting to look at. Like a little bit of animation for shooting or something.

The controls are very well tweaked which is why it is fun to play. Multi player would be great I think.

Hmm the only other thing that may be hugely controversial is zombies. Zombies! ZOMBIES! There are a lot of levels with zombies, a lot of shooter levels with zombies. Think outside the box a little maybe, how about bees & wasps and you spray them with bug spray. Or you are a diver in a shark tank and its some sort of shark survival... wait. dang. fresh ideas can be tricky I guess.

Just thought I'd update this thread since the level has been updated since. I'm still playing around with gameplay elements, and I have a concrete plan in the future for a new playing area and a new zombie type, as well as a change in levels 11-13. (Currently you're vomited on with zombies on those levels, which is kinda fun, but too unfair.)2012-02-25 19:58:00
