Piston that stops then proceeds

ok now, i am making an elevator and it's on pistons, i want the elevator to go up a certain amount, then stop, u fight something, then after it's dead the elevator continues to the top, that's possible right?2008-12-30 23:04:00

Add a magnetic key switch to the elevator, add a key to the monsters, when the elevator reaches the monsters, the radius of the switch hits the key on the monster, causing it to stop. You kill the monster, thus the key dissolves as well or whatever. So since there is no longer a switch in the radius, it keeps moving.

Tell me if it works. The only problem I see here is that the elevator has already started moving even when you're not in it. I can't think right now so if someone wants to add to my idea, feel free.

You would need it set to the "On/Off" setting by the way.

thanks , is there a way i can permanent switch it to? cuz i want it 2 stop when it gets to the top

Have a key at the top, so when it gets to the top, it stops. Might want to have a Checkpoint on the elevator, to prevent any problems getting stuck.2008-12-30 23:25:00

i got it now, put a magnetic switch on the elevator just like u were saying, make it inverted so it stops when in the presence of a magnetic key, put one key at the start of the elevator, that'll keep it from going, but have that key attached to dissolve material, make ur switch that activates the elevator dissolve the material, key gone, elevator goes, stops at the monster part, u destroy monster, it goes, it hits the last key at the top and it's done

Will you be able to get off the elevator this way ? Sounds like if you do and kill the monster, the elevator is going to leave you. Seems you might need a piston to a block, to a piston, to the elevator. So first piston stops at level, when requirement is reached (ie kill monster), the second piston can then be activated with a player proximity switch on the elevator so it does not move till player is on.2008-12-31 00:13:00

Well, it depends, when I was writing my suggestion. I was thinking MGS Style, where you stay inside the elevator and shoot at it with the paintinator.

So if you have to exit the elevator then I can see a problem and I suggest using Kratos's explanation.

yeah my fight was to be that the elevator doesn't normally make a stop there, something stops it and breaks through the wall ala boss fight

ive tried this before, and it doesn't work like you'd think it does. For some reason the elevator will sway from left to right, faster as the piston extends.
