Alien Training II: Search for the Intel

Archive: 3 posts

You are sent down to Earth after your training to go on a mission: to steal intelligence from a Palace in the desert.

I used a lot of new MGS materials and objects in this, including the Paintinator and a couple paint-puzzles. I think my level looks really nice and professional, so check it out and rate, comment, and heart if you like.

If something's wrong, feel free to leave a suggestion and I'll get to it right away.

Thanks!

Alright here's a breakdown. I was the first to beat the level and I think there's a reason:

Pros

-cool idea with the plotline. I played your first one before this one and it was a fun idea

-Nice work on attention to detail. The level is simple enough, but the polish on it makes it look pretty tight.

-You used the paintinator well, but needs some fixes (below).

Cons

-you had some very tedious jumps throughout. It's not that they were hard jumps, just really annoying one. For instance, when traversing those pillars with the gold egg shaped tops, the last pillar is in a really awkward place. Just lower it a bit so you can easily get up there. Took me quite a few tries at max jump to get it just right.

-The guy that talks through "bluetooth" to you needs a bigger role. He's introduced at the start and you stop using him after that completely (until the end). Either take it out or expand on it.

- Need a better camera angle for when you have to shoot the dissolve holding the box that you need for a platform. I had no idea what to do and shot randomly until I finally heard it. Was more lucky to find it than anything. Just change the camera and it'll be fine.

-You paintinator needs more paintballs. Just give it infinity balls so you don't have to keep backtracking to get a refill. Becomes very tiresome.

-Make more paintinator spawn points during the briefcase part. Having to backtrack for more balls is a real pain in the butt, especially when you drag the briefcase only to find you need to go back 1/4 of a level to get the gun again. Really easy fix and will make it way more enjoyable.

Tip: Maybe use the "bluetooth" dude to wire you in some info on some of the puzzling parts. Was completely clueless what to shoot at some points but figured it out eventually. Most people don't have the patience that I do (which is obvious with the plays/hearts I recieve on my levels).

Altogether I enjoyed the level and loved being an "alien". The fixes I've mentioned are really easy and will make your level 10x better in my opinion. It's easy to miss these details as a creator because you know where everything is, but you always have to make levels thinking about the players. Have people playtest your levels beforehand, helps a ton! Anyway good job and keep it up

Ah, thanks. I was going to pay more attention to the Bluetooth guy in the third installment, but yeah, I can see that.2008-12-30 21:43:00
