Monorail trial cave (working title)

Archive: 1 post

First 3 rooms are finished, lots and lots more to come.

Ive created a monorail with 4 grab-switches inside.
1 for up, 1 for down. (monorail platform)
1 for left, 1 for right. (monorail itself)

The monorail drives over a horizontal rail, but the platform can be lowered to get to parts where the monorail itself cannot get to.
(also parts of the rail will be lowered/raised to gain access to new parts.. hopefully)

If the platform is lowered, you cant drive left/right for sacksafety purposses (fail/crash safety)

The monorail has a blue light indicator that will be turned on when there is a possibility to lower your monorail platform and do some searching.

It will be multipath, at a certain point you can choose wether to do the puzzles on the left first, or go for the ones on the right and as you proceed and activate switches you and the monorail will be able to get further into the mine/cave.

Ive made the monorail 4 player proof as far as I know.
if more than one person is taking control of the monorail it will shut down untill only one designated driver is using the vehicle. (I have been testing this with 3 other players, but when I have some more rooms, Im going to need at least 3 but preferable more people that can try and destroy my monorail to see if its bully-proof.

Ive allready made it clear in my level that you shouldnt mess around with the monorail..
Even before I could give a warning my friends where all over the monorail hence I created the failsave so they wont go drive the monorail when somebody just lowered the platform to get a score bubble.

Im not saying that this level will be 4 player only, or that the gameplay needs more than one player but I do want the level to be failsave when more than 1 person is playing.

Here are the pictures:
No photo's of monorail yet, want to keep it a little bit of a secret for now.

this is a small simple layout i drew to make sure my mind wont wander off or lose inspiration.
for you it might be just a few lines,
but when I look at it, I can see where id put switches, average of rooms, how everything will look etc.

Orange lines: monorail rails
black lines: rooms (one room on picture doesnt really count as 1, if memory lets me, it can be as many rooms as I want to build).
Green lines: huge vertical movement of monorail (mostly automatic when progressing trough level)
yellow lines: horizontal movement of monoral.
Red lines: if memory allows me, more level will be created.
gray dots: just to enhance the green lines.

for materials I choose some wood and rock materials, a total of 6 at the moment and not one more.

Even though I allready used lighting, its just to get a feel of the level im creating, and more lighting will be added in the final few days of editing, depending on my memory.

Same goes for decoration, I have decorated a few parts to get a feel of what I want to create and then go with it.
Most decoration will be added at last, even grassy floors will be added last since its better to have the whole layout and gameplay finished before adding tons of decoration that might be blocking your view when re-editing or switch-setup-ing prev. build parts.

My first thin plane (the one that can block your view) isnt being used at all at the moment.
I mostly use that plane to "hide" switches, lights and dark matter materials.
And again, no reason to allready create something that can make finetweaking and such a pain.. so i always do that last.

Thats it for now I guess.
