Flippin pistons!

Archive: 1 post

I have these objects that work using a piston attached to a peice of holo as the base. The holo has a 100% dampener on it so it can't move. A solid square object and a couple sticker panels are on the other end of the piston. When the holo base is impacted, the solid object moves away from the holo base using the flipper function of the piston and then returns rapidly to original position. Anyway there are a number of these objects in my level, some with different modifications but the same basic design. All were likely copied from the same original source object. Recently when editing the level I noticed that all the pistons were fully extended for no reason. Nothing was triggering the impact sensors and on close inspection I realized they had not been extended but rather flipped in orientation, so the holo base would want to move away from the solid object, if not locked with a 100% dampener. Anyway I rewound back to see what I did to mess them all up and found that all of about 10 objects did the exact same thing at the same time. They all flipped randomly for no apparent reason at all.. I rewound as far as I could and sure enough as I waited the objects switched at the exact same time for no reason, nothing at all happening on the screen and nothing in the logic that could trigger this piston flip. I've had this happen before when copying objects with pistons or saving them to my objects but never before just randomly. Also these objects existed in this level through about 50 hours of create with no signs of ever switching until now. Now I have to manually fix each one, yet another time consuming work around for a problem with no apparent cause. Anyone ever have this happen? I will publish the object in my upcoming "What's going on here?" level about the strange things i've found in LBP2 for any non-believers..2012-02-10 02:53:00
