What DLC is essential to creation?

Archive: 11 posts

Had a browse through the help! forums but couldn't find anything on this topic, just wondering if you guys could help me.

I asked this question about 6 months ago on these forums but due to an unfortunate series of events I've been without proper internet to my PS3 in this time, but I have been working on some stuff offline. Just wondering if anything had changed?
The last time I asked, people told me to definitely get the MGS pack and consider the PoTC pack, although it wasn't really necessary with water being added to LBP2.
I gather the upcoming muppets pack is going to be quite good?

Thanks in advance for any replies, and I look forward to seeing you all on these forums over the coming months

Upcoming?! Dude, it's been out for at least a month now. Anyways the Muppets Pack is something you should consider getting because it comes with some materials and a tweaker that will revolutionize the way your levels are made. No point in getting the MSG pack, since the creatinator kind of renders the paintinator useless (unless you want to get the materials, stickers and such from the MSG pack). If you do have a move, and $11 sitting in your PS Store account, you should also consider buying the LBP2 Move Pack. It is worth EVERY penny you spend in buying it. It comes with tons of new move enabled gadgets and tools and nature themed decorations that really help in making a realisic forest scene. The Move Pack also comes with a material that I have found extremely useful, Sticker Panel, which in a nutshell is like hologram but much clearer. The Toy Story level pack is a fun pack, but unless your into getting the materials, stickers, objects and deco from the pack, I wouldn't consider getting it.

So, ya, that's my rundown of what DLC is worth getting fro the LBP2 store. Hope this helps you and I hope to see you and your creations in the online community soon.

For current packs, Move and Muppets. Muppets is more accessiable and has some great materials and decos... Umm tough call between those two.2012-02-08 07:32:00

Move.

I use sticker panel in EVERYTHING I build. Not only do I use it for decorative purposes (with and without stickers) as a non-collidable option, but also as an invisible connection point for decorations, logic and anything else in my level. Without Sticker panel and invisible light matter, my levels would all probably just fall apart.

Can you not just use holo for that?

I'd call the Muppets pack "essential" myself. The Attract-gel and attract-o tweaker really offer some fantastic possibilities. I don't have the Move pack myself, since I don't have the move controller. I've considered grabbing it just for the sticker panel, but I've not wanted to drop the $$$ when I can't make use of more of the features.

My advice on any others would be to think about the sorts of levels you want to build and then search LBPCentral (updates on level packs, including rundowns on content, usually appear in the "News" forum) or go to littlebigplanet.com to find out what each pack contains. If one strikes your fancy and looks useful, pick it up.

The MGS pack is worth it. There are quite a few good materials and decorations for futuristic and military-themed levels. It also has a few good bits and bobs and scores you some cool MM-created tanks to plop in your levels or use as templates/inspiration for your own stuff. Sure, the creatinator is way more versatile than the paint gun, but the paint gun has a physicality to it that is nice.

I really liked the History pack, too. It has some good decorations and objects, and TONS of stickers--especially history-themed architecture stickers.

The Monsters pack has some really cool decorations and stickers for creating--what else?--creepy/silly monsters. Some decent SFX, too.

I also found the Incredibles pack useful. It has a handful of neat decorations I use constantly for retro-technology objects.

The Pirates pack was certainly much more "essential" in LBP1 because of the water. It does have some nice materials and some good decorations, though.

Can you not just use holo for that?

Well no. Holo won't be as clear showing non-physical stickers, it also has an animation. I make decorative objects very often using coloured sticker panel, shaded with gradients. for example:

Holo won't do that.

Now holo will perform the other tasks, invisible attachment etc, but if i've already used sticker panel in the level.... why waste the thermo?

I think what things really boil down to is this:

NO DLC is ESSENTIAL to your creation progress. Plenty of awesome level were made with no DLC whatsoever.

That being said, we all have our preferences and 'favourite bits'. Move is mine, both for sticker panel and yummy nature decorations Though the muppets pack has a couple of really nice decorations in it too....

Thank you very much for the replies! I think, since I'm probably going to invest in a ?20 store card, I'll buy the Muppets and MGS packs and see where that leaves me, since it would definitely improve the scopes of my levels. I don't have a playstation move but I'll have to read into the other features included in the pack since you guys made them sound pretty great.

Again, thanks very much for the feedback, I really appreciate it, see you guys around!

And don't forget, if you get the Move pack, you can do the tutorial to get sticker panel, and if you have a friend with Move, that friend can guide you through the levels in the pack and get you most (except for x2 player areas) of the prizes.2012-02-11 14:25:00

Depends what you need

MGS - if you need SciFi stuff or paint gun or you are fun of MGS
Pirate of the Crabbian - If you need water decos, objects etc.
Monster Pack - If you need horror sounds and sackboy body parts decos (good for zoom-ins)
Incredibiles Pack - Have a drill object that allows you to make rotating decos
Move - If you need forest stuff... and you probably want Sticker Panle! You dont need Move to get items only a frend with Move and Move Pack
Muppet - if you need to modify sackboy gravity

Thats all packs i know, best will be if you do research on your own (go to LBPWiki for that ^^) and decide which pack you really need for project, if you not creating ythen you practicly don't need any DLC to enjoy the game
