Thermo...

Archive: 11 posts

Hey guys, I need your help one more time.

I'm like 95% done with a pretty hefty level, but I'm getting very close to the limit of thermo (within 2 notches at the moment).

I have a solid idea for an ending and I'd like to keep as much of it in as possible, but I'm getting very worried that it might not be possible

Does anyone have any tips for limiting thermo use?

Like is there anyway I can avoid using much thermo as I make the ending?

Or if I have to go back and delete anything, what should I edit (like sound effects, switches, many-cornered objects, or what)?

I feel like I remember there being a thread about thermo way back in the day, but that's probably a lost cause. Anyway, any help is greatly appreciated once again. Thanks in advance .

I don't have much time to type this so I apologize in advance if it is a jumbled mess of words.

Basically, create a copy of what you have now just in case you lose your progress or your level gets corrupt. Then, make all your edits in one create session making sure you have enough time and enough battery charge. If you need more thermo, material change every material to one material, or simply material change everything to the material it already is for the same, if not greater, effect. Be careful though, as this is dangerous since you're going over the normal amount of data the level can hold and I have had minor issues very rarely in the past. Anyways, as soon as you have enough room, make sure you place a couple emitters with sensor switches attached to them. In addition, place a couple blocks of material, some score bubbles, a scoreboard, and anything else you think you might need later on. Lastly, remember that as soon as you enter play mode or return to the main menu, you lose any extra thermo space and will have to repeat the process over again. If this happens, you can only gain as much thermo as you had left the previous time meaning that there technically is a second, invisible thermo.

Best of luck at finishing your level!

Hmmm.. I might have to try that. My PSP only works when plugged into the charger anyway, now I just have to find a few hours straight of free time to try this. Hopefully it'll be out by next week.2012-02-07 23:57:00

Good luck! If you can't find the free time, you can always save and come back to it later. Just know that you'll have to go through the process of material changing everything until you gain enough thermo again. Oh, and to clarify, you don't need to material change everything, just as much as you want until you see the thermo lower to give enough space.

I have some ideas in mind if you haven't finished it yet...

1: Try having the same materials you have already used in you level for the ending.
2: Try limiting sackbot recordings (if you have...).
3: Try limiting objects that you gain from the story levels.
4: If you have emitters, try to make them as much economical to thermo as you can, by limiting the objects it emits to the number you need, life time and stuff like that...
5: Lastly, if none of this work, you can make a second level (as a sub-level) and merge them with a level link...

I hope this helped you!

Sorry I've been reallllly inactive lately, I never even finished this level and it's like a few hours of creating from completion...

Anyway, it seems the PSP section has lured in yet another victim from the PS3 side... But seriously, I appreciate the effort so thanks anyway!

Still cutting it close on the thermo though I think it should work out in the end.

The inactivity gods have spoken with a reply from the grave...The chances of this happening are very slim!

Anyway, the material trick works wonders and lightening up on any gas effects and on corners helps, too. I hope you finish and end up posting it in the Level Showcase!

Yeah that was a pretty nice coincidence haha. I still check these forums like once or twice a week, just haven't posted or actually been able to play LBP PSP for awhile... Senior year's been really hectic for me lately.

Anyway, thanks again for the tips!
