Being a huge Twisted Metal fan, I can't wait for the game to be released! A friend told me that a multiplayer demo for the game was up on PSN since Tuesday. After facepalming so hard, I got on and I'm currently downloading it.

UPDATE:

• fixing "server error" bug
• looking into network issues
• stats being looked into
• inviting friends (SELECT) soon to be "redesigned" (friends online will show up on the list now)
• SKINS:

Yeah the multiplayer "BETA" is out at the moment. its great fun, but I'm currently finding it insanely hard. it seems that all the enemy bots lock onto only the player and never each other. also, It wouldn't let me connect to any online games last night, so I don't how good those are. too bad my friend won't be getting it. he's afraid of clowns, and the burning sweet tooth head on the menu is enough to put him off.2012-02-05 10:03:00

I got the demo the other day and I've only played a little bit of it, but I love it so far.

That helicopter you can fly is cool, but it's hard to get the hang of. Well... I've only flown it once... But yeah. The magnet drop special move is awesome!

I found the bots hard too. I've only won 1 match so far out of the 4 or 5 that I've tried, and I wasn't able to connect to any matches online. Think I'm gonna try it again later.

Do you still read Kotaku?
I refuse to read something where it was given the chance to work to someone with a face like Crecente's one.

On a side note, didn't play the multiplayer, only the tutorial.
The game seems insanely deep.
I will buy it to support Sony and Jaffe, but won't ever play the multiplayer.

Well, the Beta expired today. I lol'd at my friend who had more or less just finished downloading it, but never actually played it before it was over.

Anyhow, I'm a newcomer to Twisted Metal and I thought the Beta was immense. The controls were pretty daunting at first but once I got the hang of it I was blitzing through the AI and online opponents.
I tried all the vehicles but my first choice and favourite vehicle was Darkside. That Semi was great fun to play as.

Talon annoys me, in Nuke it's so hard to stop Talon users from getting to the Missile Launchers without an organised team who know what's going on. Fortunately, Darksides Tri-Gun can auto-target it regardless of whereabout it is, including directly up. Also, I love getting picked up by Talons magnet attack thing and then spraying them with the Tri-Gun. Pick me up and try to throw me elsewhere, huh? Take this!

Also, I'm a little annoyed at news that the European version is apparently getting bits of the violence cut. I don't mind the release delay so much, but how many times does the whole video-games-make-people-violent rubbish need to be debunked before companies stop filtering stuff.

I don't. Kotaku's slow reporting anything, so I get my news from other sites like PCGamer or GameInformer. I just happen to run into this article when searching Twisted Metal on Google (was considering pre-ordering it), but then I got distracted and landed there. Found it funny, though, so I thought I'd share.

But-but...but....

What am I reading?

I'm really excited for this, and it's a shame to see the only TM thread on here go dry so quick.

I wasn't aware of this until recently, but did anyone else know there's a skin editor coming out shortly? I believe it's to be put on the Twistedmetal.com site some time this weekend.
I was a little concerned this games appearance would quickly get a little repetitive with the same paint jobs and such recurring all the time, but if players get to create their own, then that's fantastic. Jaffe made a little demonstration video, showing what it can do but unfortunately didn't do much with the image upload stuff. The editor allows you to place various graphics anywhere on the body of the vehicle. There are many pre-made ones, but I'm intrigued by the ability to upload your own.

Hopefully the skin editor gives me something to occupy myself with while I wait the remaining 3 weeks for the European release.

In the meantime, how are people enjoying the American version? I've read loads of complaints regarding online connectivity but I'm sure that'll be resolved long before I get my hands on the game.
Also, please keep in mind not everyone wants the storylines ruined, so if you are going to discuss those publicly, use spoiler warnings.
Does Preacher appear at all in the story mode? I knew the Holy Men weren't playable outside of multiplayer, but I'm left a little puzzled as to why they're an additional faction if they have no single player appearance. Why a 4th faction if they have no campaign? Seems a little redundant.

Well... If that's your idea of a sweet paint job, knock yourself out, I guess.

Not what I meant.

If you give people the opportunity to make their own designs you're bound to see them.

See Black Ops for thousands of examples.

I'm fully aware that was what you meant - I'm just screwing with you.

While you have a point, I'm not too worried. Kids will be kids. And besides, I never saw too many inappropriate designs in Modnation, how much worse can TM be?

ModNation Racers = aimed at little children and LittleBigPlanet fans
Twisted Metal = aimed at... well, these type of people:

Implying that adults don't play games aimed at younger audiences, and kids never play games aimed at older audiences?

Besides, why so pessimistic about custom skins? I for one think this is a really cool feature. Far too cool for a few idiots with a mental age of 9 to ruin.
And no doubt there'll be a report button for just such occasions.

Well yes, children to play games meant for maturer audiences. However, the developers don't necessarily aim for that group, so less family friendly content is added into it. And I'm not being pessimistic; the image was a joke. Check my reply to Whaaaale: I actually like the idea of custom skins. You're just taking things out of content now.

Also, UPDATE:

Jaffe is now the God of Bro-Developers. <3

EDIT: SKINS

This game is excellent! Finally a game that focuses on fun gameplay and not so much on story and set pieces ala uncharted. Some of the bosses on hard made me sooo mad though haha.2012-02-19 08:27:00

Back! Decided to try the campaign mode, and I must say the devs outdid themselves! I had a blasts!

You obviously didn't appreciate the Sweet Tooth story. His ending was unique (sort of)... and dark. <3
