Pocket Moon Podcast Episode 9

Archive: 14 posts

Hidy Ho Sackfolks! I'm here to let you know that episode 9 of Pocket Moon Podcast is now available, and only a week after episode 8! Like in episode 8, we tried to keep our focus on LBP, but you'll still hear us talk about other games that are on our radar.

In episode 9 you'll hear us talk about how we feel about non-platforming levels in LBP2, the 3D glitch, iOS gaming and how it relates to LBP on Vita, and all sorts of other things.

As usual, we have a number of ways for you to retrieve the podcast:

iTunes: Pocket Moon Podcast Episode 9 (http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/pocket-moon-podcast/id407883669)

On a side note, Tom just got a new computer and his mic didn't work out so hot for this episode. He says he will find other methods to record his side of things for future podcasts :-)

Thanks biorogue! Let us know what you think.

Speaking of think, this episode has been brought to you by Lenovo ThinkPad. If you think you've heard annoying ad spots, think again!

(Just kidding.)

the sound was off in this one. one of you guys, Tom I believe, at first I thought you were driving down the road then I thought maybe he's in the bathroom? Then I thought, "no, please don't be in the bathroom!"
Good podcast. A lot of topics discussed, I wasn't really interested in, and that's fine. I'm not expecting every show to be catered to my preferences. I'm not that much into IOS games. I've played a few here and there. I usually take my PSP everywhere with me and use my Ipod for music and movies. It was interesting to hear the talk about the different game styles within LBP2. A lot of people I speak with are saying, "Where are the dang platfomers?" I love seeing new and innovative ideas that people come up with, but when it boils down to it, I want a good solid platformer. If you want to incorporate a story, that's fine, just give me some running, jumping, swinging and bouncing.

3d background glitch -- I like it, I've found some uses for it and now with the cascade tool, it's a lot easier to use. But I think you're right, it's almost as if everybody and their grandma HAS to use it, else your level is "lame" which stinks, because there are loads and loads of awesome levels that don't use it.

movie levels--I agree to a degree. I'm not going to sit and watch an hour long LBP movie no matter how good you tell me it is. I want to play dang it! But like B-coli said, Kaiju's and some others like Cymbol's, are really good and not all that long either. What I like about Kaiju's movies is they often have a message and they do evoke emotion.

Anyway, good show and as always, I'm looking forward to the next one.

question for next podcast. I hear you guys talking about a lot of game genres. What are your feelings towards Point and Click adventures? I love them myself and is probably my favorite game genre. Grim Fandango, Day of Tentacle, Runaway, Secret Files Tunguska, Syberia, The Secret of Monkey Island (DOS version), Space Quest to name a few. Some would say it's a dying breed of games, but there are still good quality PnC's being released. There are several adventure game engines out there so that people can make their own games and release them to forums and what not and I have played a lot of really really good ones. You've got the Scumm engine and Adventure Game Studio which are my favs. So where are you guys on that?

biorogue, you rock. Thanks for all the detailed feedback as always! It's great to hear thought/responses on the stuff we're covering.

Also, and before I forget, I see you're in Texas... Perhaps we can talk you into joining the podcast one of these times? We promise to be nice.

the sound was off in this one. one of you guys, Tom I believe, at first I thought you were driving down the road then I thought maybe he's in the bathroom? Then I thought, "no, please don't be in the bathroom!"Oh. Uh... Was it that obvious that I was in the bathroom? Um, eh.. Sorry about that.

No, I wasn't actually in the bathroom. So, I bought a SMOKIN new computer and used it for the first time to record the podcast. What I discovered after we recorded, however, is that the built-in mic is considerably less smokin than the rest of the machine.

I have a couple of different external mics I need to experiment with, or I may just buy a purpose-built podcasting mic and be done with it. Either way, expect non-crap audio going forward.

I've played a few here and there. I usually take my PSP everywhere with me and use my Ipod for music and movies.I always used to carry my PSP around with me, but I haven't much in the past year or so because of all the good asynchronous (turn based) iOS games available. (e.g., Scramble with Friends, at which afp is beating me... Looks like I need to play Psychonauts!) Regardless, I'm looking forward to seeing that PSP level you've been working on.

If you want to incorporate a story, that's fine, just give me some running, jumping, swinging and bouncing.Yeah, I'm the same way. The game is natively built as a platformer and seems to work the best for that sort of level, and sometimes it's nice just to boot up a nice old school run-and-jump adventure. I only wish it was slightly easier to find quality levels like that. I'm sure the day is coming though - Mm seems to always be improving the interface and search features.

What I like about Kaiju's movies is they often have a message and they do evoke emotion.I guess one thing we didn't address is GOOD movie levels versus meh ones. For me a so-so movie level is very unattractive, whereas a mostly decent one (e.g., kaiju's stuff!) is ridiculously cool. I'm a movie buff and although I'm not a particularly talented movie maker (read: zero talent) I can appreciate quality cutscenes and clever editing.

Good stuff guys. Actually held my interest for the whole hour (though i did have to skip back a little at times to hear what tom was saying lol) -- the story about the little boy and make a wish foundation... *sniff* got me right here, right here.

Liked hearing all your thoughts on things lbp and non-lbp

And totally agreed about the recent news feed updates with the spotlight - it's a MAJOR event, and the crew is still giddy about the difference it's making for those they're featuring I really hope that plenty of other sites start to get the exposure they deserve too, and we can help our community to keep on growing. New members all the time and all that

Special episode? Oooh. Colour me intrigued XD

What are your feelings towards Point and Click adventures?

Seconded! *rummages around for monkey island... again...*

Thanks for the feedback rialrees! It's great to hear that you enjoyed the podcast and we are able to keep you entertained!

We apologize for the issue that we had with Tom's mic. He messaged me soon after we finished recording letting me know that there had been an issue, but it was too late. We will hopefully not have any issues in the future.

Sounds like there is real interest for point and click adventures! We will have to make that a topic of a podcast in the very near future, but not episode 10 since that is a VERY special episode ;-)

We will hopefully not have any issues in the future. It wasn't until I started the editing process that I realized it how bad my mic was. It's not every day you get hear what you'd sound like if you talked into a shoe while being stuffed headfirst into a storm drain. A shiny new headset is on the way though (yay, toys!) so that should remedy things. We hope.

the story about the little boy and make a wish foundation... *sniff* got me right here, right here.Yes, that is THE COOLEST STORY I have heard in quite a long time. It really made me re-appreciate the game (which I had downloaded before even knowing the background). It's genuinely good!
