Graphics card reccomendations?

Archive: 12 posts

I got another new comouter, and am going to send the old one I built to my brother, because he needs a new one. THis new one I have is great, much faster than the old one but it is missing one thing: a decent graphics card. Im on the integrated graphics right now, and its not great. So if anybody has any suggestions for a sub $100 graphics card (preferably ATI) that would be nice. 2012-02-04 15:49:00

It's possible he has a desktop with an i5 or i7.

Hard to make a recommendation without knowing what kind of card slots are available on the MB. I suspect PCIe 16x, but not sure any AMD gfx that would be under $100 and be that much of a gain.

Don't underestimate laptops.

I didn't, I have a gaming laptop with me now at Uni, because I can't have my desktop. Mine has a 5870 in it though, if his is a laptop he won't be able to upgrade the graphics card though. At least, not without trouble.

Wouldn't people need to know which motherboard you're using and the wattage of your power supply at a minimum before they could recommend anything?2012-02-06 20:37:00

Yup.. or at least what type of slots are available. PSU wattage is important as well.

It is a machine I built myself on a budget. It has a 600w PSU and it has a Phenom II x6 and 1 PCIe x16 slot (it is a desktop). I am currently running on a Radeon HD 4250... which runs simple games well but most of the games I play on it are pretty much unplayable. And sorry for not getting back, I have been really busy..2012-02-11 16:15:00

This might get you quite a boost and still below $100. Still way below what would be considered normal game worthy, but better than what you have currently.

Just hard to get to cutting edge or just below that without spending quite a bit of $$ these days.

Most welcome.. you will have to insure it is really compatible. I just sorta zoomed through some lists and seemed to hit all your wishes. 2012-02-12 01:45:00
