Do I need Move Controller AND Playstation Eye Camera?

Archive: 3 posts

My son owns LittleBigPlanet 2 and wants to create levels that have motion-control input. He can get access to a cheap standalone Playstation Move Controller.

Will that be sufficient, or does he also need a Playstation Eye Camera to use the Move Controller as an input device?

Thank you for your help.

You see, the Move Controller has gyroscopes and sensors so the PS3 knows the exact way you are placing the controller. It also has speed sensors so it can tell how fast you are moving it. But for aiming, the PS3 doesn't know if you are pointing the TV or the wall, there's nothing to tell the PS3 what you are pointing. This is why there's a light at the end of the Move : the PSEye can see the light and detect it as a controller. In theory, if you had a flashlight of the same color, the PSEye could recognize it as a Move. That's why the PSEye is needed.

To play move games, you need a PSEye, one PS Move controller (usually one per player), and often one SIXAXIS/Dualshock3 per player. The Navigation controller is half a SIXAXIS, only so it's nicer to hold in games which require both Move and SIXAXIS. It's not needed. I have one, and I don't use it with LBP because I'm always creating, and you can't create with a Nav controller.
