My internet connection keeps dropping out. :/

Archive: 5 posts

Recently got a new router, (linksys) every 30-60 mins it seems to loose the connection.
By the time I "troubleshoot problems" via the wireless icon, the connection is back, and the troubleshooter tool finds "no problems".
Sometimes it does find an error which looks like this (http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7016/6791885959_691cb42889_z.jpg).
It's starting to really get annoying now.
I have reset router, tried google, ISP won't help as the do not support my brand of router, and the router guys (cisco) won't help either as my warranty has expired, changing channel, etc.
The problem started a month ago. Had it for at least 3. Weird thing is I haven't changed any settings since I installed it.

Windows 7, cisco linksys wireless, several computers linked to it + PS3.

Any ideas?

Darn... this is always a bummer. The router brand says the responsibility lies with the ISP guys, the ISP guys say the router brand is the one at fault...
You could read both the instructions of the router and the information your ISP gave you when they installed the service to find out exactly which party is responsible for this. Remember, 99% of the people from client support will try to weasel their way out of anything that involves compromise. If they are contacted by a client who doesn't have a clue about what the problem is, they'll dismiss it like no big deal. So you best arm yourself with whatever knowledge of their responsibilities to the client you can find.

The next time you buy a router, contact the ISP to find out which brands they support and choose from those. It'll be easier.

I know this doesn't help you much but it's what I know. Hopefully someone around here has an exact solution for your problem to save you more trouble. I always have bad luck when it comes to technology and have frequently found myself in loopholes like this one. It's like people just expect you to be a technician and solve it for yourself. I hope you can find a way. Good luck.

I was having this kind of problem recently, it would reset every 10 minutes or less and reconnect instantly. My suggestion: Cry silently on the corner.2012-01-30 22:55:00

I couldn't connect after my ISP did some upgrade to their network and had to change a setting on the router to make it work.

I'm referencing a netgear router so your terminology may be different.

this was under adsl settings on the router.

Multiplexing method theres LLC-Based and VC-Based try the one thats not currently set up if it doesn't work just switch back.
