One of The Most Controversial Video Games is LBP?

Archive: 19 posts

April posted this at her site http://www.playstationrealms.com/forum-3/, good site, you should check it out. Anyway, she posted a link to an article that listed the 15 most controversial video games and LBP was listed as one of them, as well as others like Modern Warfare and Resident Evil 5. I've played many on the list, like Postal and Mortal Kombat and know of the controversy surrounding the "hot coffee" mod for San Andreas, but to lump LBP in with these games because a background song used two lines from the Qur'an, I think is a little on the unfair side.
What say you? Here's the link to the article and be forewarned, some of the games listed do contain adult subject matter but there are no graphic scenes. It's from the Huffington Post (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/03/12/most-controversial-video_n_496423.html#s69336&title=Modern_Warfare_2)

Yeah, I never really got how it was so controversial. Is that LBP player demographic that big? 2012-01-30 01:52:00

I don't see how that makes LBP one of the most controversial games but whatever. Including such a minor controversy -one that was rectified fairly quickly at that- on a list with actual controversial games such as Postal and Custer's Revenge just seems lazy.2012-01-30 02:01:00

LBP being on that list is ridiculous.
It just tells me that someone has way to much time on their hands and nothing better then to try and tear apart a fun, creative, positive game.

I've seen far worse things on LBP created by users than than lyrics from the Quran, so, I'd have to say it's place in that list is somewhat deserving, albeit for the wrong reason.2012-01-30 02:27:00

That's just over-puffed article with a hint of bias. They removed it from shelves for new copies to be released, and also released a patch rather quickly as soon as there was a complaint. Its not like they kept the game controversial for very long. This is ridiculous.2012-01-30 03:15:00

No-one remember that level with the cheese and the mice? The...human waste? I think there were some fingers being eaten?
No?
Well, I'll just continue being mentally scarred for life.

As everyone else said above, it's fair to be up there... just for the wrong reasons.

Seriously, "KILL (Insert name)" levels everywhere back in LBP1? What controversy is NOT in that?

So basically what they are saying is:

MW3 is just as controversial as LBP? Hm, something about that sentence is completely wrong in every single way possible.

PAHAHA! Oooh, that's funny. A game about a cute innocent little doll, traveling around his planet to save it and create a friendly bond, a game encouraging friendship, love, compassion, creativity, imagination, and the welcoming of multicultural views, is deemed just as bad as games themed on WAR and severe CRIMES? Why? Oh, because it had two lines from the Qur'an. They aren't even THERE anymore. How dumb is that? Huffington post, I assure you that LBP is probably the LEAST controversial game in existence (you know, besides Leapfrog and that baby stuff).
The user-generated content is not controlled by the rating system, so you can expect SOME stuff, but not controversial stuff. I mean yeah, there are some "Kill (this annoying celebrity)" levels, but remember, the community is also made up of ten-year-olds, so you can't blame 'em. And they aren't really realistic enough to be a big deal, I mean most of the time it's just a block of sponge with the victim's name being dropped into poot gas. There are also mods for that. How often do you see a level called "Bomb This Country"? (NO, I'm not talking about the globally copied "Be a Giant and Destroy a City!" level, that's different). I didn't think so. Geez. They sure got THEIR diapers in a knot.

LBP is quite rightly on the most controversial list. I mean ,we ARE talking about the game which convinced thousands of kids that it was okay to slap their sacks and tweak their stiff pistons!2012-02-01 22:36:00

I read the article, and I can say that it was the most poorly made article I have ever read. This guy hardly did any research. There are plenty of games far more controversial than LBP, as the Koran lines were omitted from the current game. BTW, I would be fine with the original lines as freedom of religion is a right to everyone.

Dont even pay attention to this stuff, the guy who wrote it is a fool.

And it has the most graphic stuff I ever seen. Some dude made a character get sucked into space and implode into globs of blood and minced meat! And another level had a neon sign of a woman in bikini and saying "XXX"!

Can you believe this? Will no one think of the children?!

Wow, the music in question was removed, and it still made the list? Hahaha!! That is crazy!

I actually remember having to wait an extra week to get my hands on the game because of that.

Well, what most people don't know is that when Sackboy was first named they called him "Mohammed";
Some or all of this post may or may not be true
