Hey all! New player here with a few questions

Archive: 14 posts

Hey guys,

Little bit about me - I'm 31, live in the northeastern United States, and I bought a PS3 specifically for LBP2. The community seems wonderful and inclusive, and I'm really looking forward to getting my hands dirty in the editor. Right now I'm just plowing my way through the main story to unlock stuff and occasionally going through the tutorials (Stephen Fry's buttery voice helps with that).

I was wondering, is the original LBP worth playing as far as unlocks go (backgrounds, music, etc.), or is that content not worth getting/can be snagged in some other way?

I'm also hoping to find a group of people to add to my friends list that are interested in playing/designing -- it's too much of a crapshoot randomly trying to find people that I enjoy playing with.

Thanks for your time.

Welcome to LBPC.
I started with LBP1 so I'm not sure what is or isn't included in LBP2 by itself.
I know I enjoyed LBP1.
Have fun exploring the site and be sure and check out the "Finding Other Happy Gadders" section to find people to play and create with.

The only things I miss from the original LBP were the MGS DLC pack, (Which appears absent from the store in LBP2.), and the theme music for some reason, even though it is upbeat, almost optimistic-sounding. *Shudders*2012-01-29 22:33:00

Hi Digital and welcome to LBPC! It's great to have you here. I started with LBP1 and I would say yes, get it. All the objects transfer to LBP2 so that just means more stickers, deco, music, backgrounds etc, in which to create with. Again, welcome and enjoy your time here.2012-01-29 23:05:00

Howdy there friend! Welcome to the always wonderful Little Big Planet Central. I also started with LBP1 and I would definitely say that it is worth playing through. For me, I really loved story mode in part 1 and have never really created much, but as biorogue pointed out, everything transfers to LBP2 so it gives you even more options when creating. Have a great time on here 2012-01-30 00:16:00

I agree with Brixx agreeing with the others. LBP 1 is worth getting the prizes. It'll help loads in LBP 2.

Hey there, welcome to the LBPC forums!
I hope you will have a fun yet comfrontable time here in this open-minded forum
Feel free to post around and so through the forums, you can either start new threads or just leaveposts on other people's threads.
Um, yeah I would reccomend transferring your LBP1 data to LBP2. I find that you would have a larger tool kit of objects, stickers etc to use in create and such.
Esspecially the "realistic" stickers and the "colour" sploches.

Anyways have a great time here!

Hey, welcome to the forum.

I don't find myself using many objects or materials from LBP1, honestly. It really depends what you want to make whether they'll be useful or not.

Thanks for all the support and warm introductions! I decided to pick up LBP1 and blow through the story levels which went surprisingly quickly (though the last few levels inspired a couple near-controller-snapping moments!). It was fun, but I can definitely see how the second one is an improvement in pretty much every way. Again, thanks - and feel free to add me to your friends lists. I'm sure I'll have a lot of fun poking around the site.2012-01-31 02:04:00

(Well, I suppose I missed the welcoming party...)

Welcome to the community. Hope you find everything tip-top in your LBP2 expedition.

Remember, you can always ask for help if there's that one prize out of reach!

(I suppose that'll suffice... lol)

One question I had -- are there any good video tutorials on examples of level building? Ideally with voice narration? I'm not referring to the in-game tutorials, but something more along the lines of a Let's Play format. Something along the lines of this, (http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2833FC5C2BD69C1D&feature=plcp) but with a voice recording actually explaining why the person is using the tools they're using to do what they want to do?

I figure there has to be SOME sort of tutorials like that out there! Thanks so much!

comphermc has some good videos.
for tips on level design... follow these steps:
1)Play levels
2)Make a level
3)Get feedback here on the forums (use feedback for feedback system) http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?40-Level-Showcase
4)Meditate on what you've learned.
5)repeat in whatever order you like.

Study. Fail. Study harder. Try again. Fail better.

I use lots materials and stuff from LBP1

Welcome! Glad ya made it!

For one... I feel that LBP1 simply has quite a bit more charm to the levels as well as some killer materials as prizes. There are quite a few stickers and music objects that are pretty darn useful as well. It wouldn't be a huge deal to not get them, but I still seem to use those materials depending on the theme. If you go back and play LBP1 after starting LBP2, once back inside LBP2 it will recognize the extra goodies and ask if you want to pull them in.

Have fun!!!
