Wipeout 2048

Archive: 24 posts

I wonder why there is no thread about this game on this forum. Couldn't find it so I made one. Anywho I never was a big fan of the Wipeout series but this game looks awesome! And I think I'm going to buy it (when I got the Vita ofc).

Wipeout 2048, is back and completely rebuilt for the next-generation PlayStation handheld. Rebuilt exclusively for the intuitive game handling of a touch interface, motion active tilt, and voice activated controls, players can race against anyone anytime (including PS3 players) with up to 8 players simultaneously and compete for first place within the online leader boards.

Getting this on release with the vita Well, will download it straight away! Can't wait, I love Wipeout HD & Fury and this looks to be more of the awesome gameplay with tweaks. I think they've really nailed it now, so looking forward to this one.2012-01-29 00:06:00

I think I read somewhere that the game comes with a code to download new content for the ps3 version, anyone hear the same thing?

I want bad, really bad, but I have no money for a vita.

I'm also really looking forward to this. I'm a little skeptical about the tilt controls, I miss my NeGcon. 2012-01-30 06:09:00

I'm a little skeptical about the tilt controls.
Well I'm not going to use them anyway. I better like the traditional analogs for more precision.

Played quite a bit of WipEout HD today, so much fun; hopefully Zone mode is back and badder than ever. But still, it'll probably be a while til I can afford to pick up a Vita and Uncharted and Escape Plan are higher than WipEout on my wanted list.

EDIT: Found a Zone mode video, looks good but not as good as the PS3 version. Linked not embedded because of light cursing (Does the S word count as light? LOL).

Yeh I preffered the art style of HD for zone mode. Still, it's my favourite mode of the game and I can't wait to pick it up again 2012-01-30 19:48:00

Yeah I mostly love the zone mode. How the track is synched with the music, the colors, the speed. 2012-01-30 22:46:00

The tracks are still synched with the music so that's cool not sure about the rest though.2012-01-31 00:21:00

I'm a huge fan of racers, and racers with shooting elements in them, but the one thing that puts me off Wipeout completely is the auto drive control system. You don't even need to steer, just break and accerlate. Even with the settings set to the hardest and with an veichle it's always the same, just wish the game involved more skill rather than holding a button to be honest. 2012-02-02 19:23:00

You mean the pilot assist feature? You know you can turn it off? It's just a feature that was added to help new players get into the series...it's completely worthless at higher difficulty/speeds. In my brief experience with it on pilot assist just nudges you away from walls, it was hardly a replacement for steering in addition to being totally annoying.

This game certainly does require skill, I personally like doing the time trials best. There's no way you were winning races on the "hardest setting" with just break and accelerate and the crap-tastic pilot assist.

I know there's a pilot assist, it is off, this is on Wipeout HD which i got from the outage thing. It's just too un-interactive. With racers i like to feel that it's me driving, me doing everything, from changing gears to reving the engine, but with wiepout, i don't get any of that, just alot of nice looking scenery and tracks that go up and down and left and right quicker than i can say "what was that", but it's not me driving.

Sure you hit walls occasionally though it does very little in terms of performance or race results. The worst that happens is you lose a place on the grid which you make up for seconds after but deploying an over powerful blast wave (thing) which just kills anything in it's path..

I know some people like this game, and that's cool, but i think the reason wipeout never has really been a must buy for racing fans is because of what i've mentioned above.

Probably why most people are on Dirt 3 and GT5 right now.

For me racing around on the highest speed class and not touching any walls is one of the most satisfying racing experiences out there. Getting gold on all events can require a brutal amount of skill and precision.

GT5 is great too but the formula is getting a little stale for me. To each his own.

Going around quickly without crashing or hitting walls is easierly do-able on any racing game, such as dirt and GT5 i previously mentioned, being of course that your a good driver. I find knocking down times on dirt 3 satisifing, though i hit a brick wall of not being able to push any further than 13th on the boards, though the GT5 online i like for more live competition, though it does annoy me that some people can't drive well enough to know when to break whilst behind you >.<

So the first thing I'll be doing in this game is changing the controls. It looks like the default is now R to accelerate, L to brake and square to airbrake.
NONO.

L and R must be airbrakes. You can change it though so all good.

Just to say this game is awesome! Already got elite on all SP events, now to elite the multiplayer events. Shame about the dodgy FPS when it gets hectic, but it's now game breaking2012-03-01 18:14:00

My only annoyance is the controls. I liked L/R for airbrake, but having square as release item is a pain, because I have to life my thumb off x to hit it, causing me to slow down. :/ So I am sticking with Racer. Also, there doesn't seem to be a playlist tool for the music. ._. I miss little things like that.

Other than that, it is great so far. I do also miss having lots of teams to choose from however. :c But that is just me being picky with aesthetics. ...EG-X's final unlockable version on Pulse was so sweet. ;-;

Graphics are also a great improvement from Pulse.

You can change to the classic controls in the settings (first thing I did), and can play music over any games you want with the music app

Load times are not great. Just shy of being painful, so not game breaking at all. Nowhere near modnation racers bad though (grid the demo and it was atrocious!)
