Thermo and usage

Archive: 9 posts

I would really like to see more thermo and a running measurement of how much each item uses.
Each item having it's usage measurement under its info.

For example: Available thermo....100

On each item have how much thermo it uses.
Background A- 1
Blue color sticker- .5
Marble object- 3
Blue glass material- .1 per square used
etc.

I think that may help when planning, or while creating a level, to avoid overheating.

I think that's a great idea! Sometimes it is really hard to tell what in your level is taking up the most therm until you start deleting things afterwords. They should also make the game smarter for determining what in your level can and will affect the therm at a given time. For example in one of my levels a very complex object is emitted multiple times but only one at a time and in 2 orientations depending which way you are facing. The logic dictates that it's never possible for both objects to be emitted or exist at the same time and even though it's the exact same object just flipped, each emitter takes a huge toll on my therm That's where my object flipper idea would help or a better rule system for therm that was easy to understand so we wouldn't have to cheat therm.. Anyway I like your idea 2012-01-27 19:45:00

As A lesson I've learned, corners on objects take up a TON of thermometer space; after deleting the sticker-cutter sticker panel and replacing them with only 4 corners (Since the sticker is the only visible area), and it cut my thermometer from completely full to 1/4th.
As I've noticed through experience as well, The amount of stuff in a specific area of your level seriously effects the thermometer too.
When your getting warnings about too much stuff crammed in one area, expect your level to get glitchy and fill up quicker than normal.

I just reuse stickers/decorations/objects.

That would be really useful. I always run into the problem of running out of thermo space, but I know a tip that can help with thermo space. Try not to use more than 5 or 6 materials, that can save you some thermo.2012-01-28 17:10:00

heres a tip to save thermo space: use the corner editor instead of adding more using the material"paint" tool. also it would help if you used simple shapes:ie: squares.2012-01-30 14:26:00

I think we miss the point... (?)

I support this idea, mainly because the kinds of levels I help produce need either:
-Extensive sticker/deco use
-Use a bunch of materials

And the fact I'm an unorganised person...

Plus my music incorperates MANY instruments so there's that too (though I'm certain I saw a list detailing those values.)

I know I'd need to use those tips... but sometimes I can't keep track. In the long run this would probably be overlooked but useful to an extent.

I think it's perfectly clear already which items use the most thermo, it's the more complex shapes and ones with more detailed patterns that use alot. Having lots of numbers around the screen telling me which uses the most thermo would make no difference to what i'd make, even if the material's and objects i had chosen were the most exspensive ones i wouldn't change it. If it got to the point where the thermo is full then use a link, don't really see that as an important update to be honest.2012-02-01 11:04:00

I personally think this would be a great idea. I would want to know what takes up what when it comes to the thermo. Not only would it be helpful when creating, but heck if I remember right, isn't "knowing half the battle"?2012-02-10 16:42:00
