Sackbot logic: aiming paint/creatinator but not firing

Archive: 8 posts

I want to use a sackbot's "aim at target" setting to cause it to point its paint gun at a tag, but I don't want it to fire at the tag until another point in my logic. Unfortunately as soon as the sackbot sees the target tag, it starts firing and won't stop (even after it runs out of ammo, if limited). I've tried overriding the R1 button, but that doesn't help. How do I achieve this?

I actually have a sackbot that I made a long time ago that does this correctly, so I know that it's possible, but I've gone back over every setting and can't find the difference between that and what I'm doing now. I've been struggling with this for quite a while now, so if anybody knows the settings or process to achieve this, I'd be much obliged for some guidance. Thanks!

It should only fire when set to "Hostile" mode, so maybe turn that off.

Thanks Aya, I thought that would do it too, however it doesn't make a difference for me. And from reading elsewhere I was getting to be under the impression that "hostile" mode really only governs if the sackbot will seek to collide with the player under certain modes like follow (presumably while danger tweaked).

Seems like when I was playing around with something like this a few months ago, I had sackbots that wouldn't shoot at you unless you shot them first. When they were attacked it would switch them to 'hostile' and they would start firing. However I don't know if they started aiming at that same point or not. perhaps so... is it imperative that the sackbots aim at the tag before they start to shoot?2012-01-27 18:14:00

That sounds like fun game play, but in this case, yeah, I really need them to aim and not yet shoot.

I figured it out. You have to keep the target tag on different layer. This makes sense now that I realize, but what confused me was that putting it on a thin layer directly in front of the sackbot's layer still seems to cause it to fire. However when I finally moved that thin layer behind sackbot's layer, he would still aim but would no longer squeeze the trigger. Cool. Thanks for the feedback nonetheless.2012-01-27 19:38:00

****, I typed a lot of text to explain how to make it, but I've been too much time typing, then the text got erased when I clicked "Post". After I logged in again as the web requested me, the next PHP page got loaded blank .

Anyway, if you are disposed to enable heavy logics, when I got sometime, I'll make photos, or MS Paint pictures if needed, to show you how to enable the logics that will make your wish a reality.

Thank Sebas for trying to post an answer. I think I've got it worked out now though, and it seemed as easy as putting the tag on a thin layer behind sackbot's layer.
