From Dusk Till Dawn Remix

Archive: 11 posts

Hello, after a month of work here is my first LPB2 level. It is based loosely on the movie of the same name, and its a mix of groovy desert road movie and pyschedelic horror! It's got a little bit of story, platforming, scary vistas, crazy creatures, boss fight and a lot of groove. Thermometer to the max so its a bit long. 2 player max!

Guest directors: Quentin Sackantino & Robert Sackdriguez.

Bios i couldnt find the Super street bomb survival naow wid real waterz level but i did played the one on your signature. Funny and actually decent hehehe. Loved how every circuit is visible and how the "stealth" part that u can totally skip by jumping XD2012-01-27 18:31:00

Hmmm, interesting. It is rather long and is quite a mishmash of styles. It could be condensed as the journey through the environment is quite fun as it the landscape there is just a lot of it.

I find it a little confusing that there is so much visible logic and much of it is LBP1 stuff. The blocks of dark matter are also a bit strange, as it the use of very common LBP1 vehicles. Theses things in themselves don't make a bad stage, but because of their over use. ti doesn't help you stage when the first appear.

I also think that you fell into quite a common trap of making three layers of playability, the line of bounce pads suggest bad design. Which is something tat your stage is not, them use of switch backs through parts already visited is clever and well thought out, but the actual implementation with floating dark matter and such let the design down.

The part at the fuel station was really well done, as were several other sections. I just think that the trips between sections were quite extended. I would have liked a more of a solid platforming area around the gas station, like avoiding the cop and setting charges to explode etc.

Over all a fun level but slightly too spaced out.

Mr. Fusion! Thank you so very much for the suggestions! I cant believe how much logic i left visible. The vehicles may look like they are from the given items but i actually made them. If you place both you would see the difference (you cant modify the ones u earn by playing story mode, and mine are modified). But seeing how you perceive them i might have to modify them even more to make them more unique, both the car and the motorcycle.

As for the dark matter and 3 layer usage, i agree and i will try to modify those parts to integrate them to the scenarios. Although some of the 3 layer pads were placed consciously in order to help players see where they should be going next. I've seen the way lots of players go around levels getting stuck, getting desperate and leaving when things are not crystal clear (especially the younger ones). But i will certainly keep your advice in mind for future levels!!

Without the feedback i would have probably left the level untouched, so again thank you very much for taking the time to play it and for those great suggestions. I will add level photos when i return home for others to see. Cheers!

I think that the LBP1 feeling comes form the fact that its using a lot of LBP1 ideas, like the switch for the car a controlinator would be more 'normal' nowadays, and all your switches and grab sensors were LBP1 logic. It's weird but it just makes the stage feel 'old'2012-01-28 01:24:00

I got a chance to play the level and don't think I can put it better than Fusion, he's great at feedback. There were a couple of things I noted though. The inclusion of contolinators for the cars is good, but you left no way to exit the seat. I had to "pop" myself to get out of the car, which returned me to the previous checkpoint and I had to run from there. Then I ran to where the car was and got sucked back into the control seat. I reversed the car all the way back to the checkpoint and "Popped" myself again. The title looks ok as far as the lettering goes, but it looks out of place stuck on a big piece of glass. It might would look cool if the title were on a roadside billboard and the camera zooms in on it as you drive by, or maybe a sticker panel that turns on right as you drive by? I fell out of the play area right after that spot where the fire logs are rolling down the ramp. there is a fast spinning wheel, nevermind, took a pic where I jumped down. It's not a level breaker, I just popped myself again to the previous checkpoint.

All in all, not too shabby and a fun level.

Thanks Fusion & Biorogue!!! This level was born in LBP1 but i quickly moved to LBP2 (thats why i called it Remix) but i've replaced almost all LBP1 logic now. I will correct the area where u can fall and i gotta i admit your idea of the billboard displaying the level name is fantastic! I also corrected the controlinators in the cars but there is something in that area that for all that is sacred cannot fix! If any of you or someone else would like to help, i would be happy to include in the credits! I will add some pictures of the level soon.2012-01-28 06:08:00

Yeah things like glass to hold letters could be replaced with Holo and gravity tweaks instead of Dark matter... these are the little polishes that will get it looking fresher2012-01-28 07:26:00
