I don't think it's anything to worry about, unless you're looking for it you probably wouldn't even notice anything is happening.

In saying that though, they're not something to be ignored. If the event is big enough, the solar wind it would hurl towards Earth could pose a significant danger to our technological society, satellites (critical for many people's day to day lives) being the most susceptible. So it's a good thing scientists (read: NASA), being the smart people they are, started monitoring the Sun by launching STEREO (two Solar TErrestrial RElations Observatory spacecrafts) their specific job being to monitor both sides of the Sun simultaneously for sun spots, solar flares etc.

For those interested the Carrington Flare (http://science.nasa.gov/science-news/science-at-nasa/2008/06may_carringtonflare/) is the largest in recorded history, interesting stuff if you ask me!		2012-01-24 12:53:00
