Vertigo Mindflip

Archive: 11 posts

Despite the fact I've been on LBP2 since the Beta, I have not posted One level. Why? Low self-esteem (i.e. nobody will like this, you have no clue what you are doing, etc. etc.). Well, that was the old me, and the new me has a brand new level for you to try!

Vertigo Mindflip is a psychedelic search for some guy's pet brain throughout a cave of very difficult challenges, like 4srsly, this level is hard. It's got a new custom built mechanic (The Flipboots), groovy visuals, and a close-to-epic boss battle at the end! Also there's a Genius Cat mechanic for people who fail at puzzle platforming that gives tips, and reduces the difficulty of some obstacles

So what are you waiting for! Try Vertigo Mindflip NOW!

I got it queued, will be back with some feedback.

UPDATE: I just got done with this one and I really like the concept. It kind of reminds me of the Gravity Man stage in Megaman 5 for the NES. It wasn't too hard and it wasn't too easy I think the difficulty is spot on. The visuals were very pleasing and it never got boring. I like levels that are fun for the eyes as well as the mind, I think it all comes together real good. On a side note, I did encounter a bug where I was able to get outside of the intended playing area and this was right at the beginning. Not a deal breaker by any means, but something you might want to fix just to tighten it up a bit. Overall I think you did a pretty good job on this and I do think it is worthy of 3.5 stars.

Good Job!

Played it, was a pretty good level.

The controls feel a little floaty. If you're in midair and turn the gravity back on to normal, your character still retains a bit of upward momentum which seems a bit off. Also, the boss was a little confusing because I wasn't sure if the missiles were even affecting him until he was actually dead...might not be a bad idea to show the players that they are hurting the boss.

And as someone said before, you might want to cap off the top of the level...you can fly right out of the level over the head of the first character at the beginning.

Hi, and thanks for playing my level! You'll be happy to know that I've made some improvements to the level (specifically the boss fight, and the parts where you fly off the screen) that should be beneficial to your playing expierience! In terms of the Floatiness, that's completely intentional. The Flipboot mechanic was designed to have the same physics as a MMU (Man Mover Unit) at NASA. Essentially,*it gives off a little bit of inertia- which is vital to the core physics of the level. In other words, that can't be fixed . Thanks again for playing!

@Deurklink: Good to hear! Funstration is my goal!

I actually had a lot of fun and life the inertia of the flip mechanic. It was something I wasn't expecting and it took a little while to understand the momentum.

The level design is really nice also, it would have been very easy to do some sort of space theme. The thing that really impressed me was how you let the player adjust the difficulty, a very thoughtful touch.
