Sackbot Bosses

What's the best way to make sackbot bosses, especially ones with special attacks that require programing? should I do it the way comph did it in his tutorial based on player sensors, should I go by sequencers, or should Is there a way you could do a mix of both?2012-01-21 21:49:00

You could possibly use pistons and moving pieces with tags and sensors on them, sequencers could be mixed with it too. i say just go with your gut!2012-02-04 09:35:00

I'd reckon recording/sackbot automation to make a load of preset attacks and movements, then hooking these up to a sequencer and playing each recording. Hope you understand 2012-02-04 10:38:00

You can go two ways about this: either (everything) prerecorded moves, or reacting to circumstances using logic. I prefer the latter and this approach does not exclude 'scripted' boss routines. I'd use a selector to set the state a boss is in (i.e. attacking, defending, phase 1, phase 2, etc.), wire that to separate chips and stick logic on there for that state. You can add various substates on those chips, like moving left/right.

External influences could push a boss into a state or you can combine it with timers to cycle between states. I.e.: 1) boss sits there firing at you, 2) 10 seconds later he starts to walk from left to right and back for 10 seconds, then sits down wherever he is at that moment (phase 1). This repeats until 25% hp is left, then the boss moves to phase 3 and starts running and firing at the same time until death.
