Using projectile sensor-based health on a boss fight

Archive: 3 posts

I've almost finished a level, but am having trouble working on the boss fight at the end of it. The idea is that Sackboy is in a missile-shooting ship against a boss that takes about 30 missile hits before it blows up. I tried attaching a projectile sensor set to detect all types of projectiles and wired that to a Destroyer, but when I try shooting it, the bar on it doesn't change. What do I need to tweak for the missile hits to take effect?2012-01-21 19:01:00

The projectile sensor only works for the dedicated projectiles water, fire, plasma and.. another one. Paint? Custom objects don't make it react.

You can stick a tag "missile" on your projectiles. Then use an impact sensor on the boss' sensitive area and wire that to the counter. If your missiles fire in such frequency that this will make the impact sensor not shut off (as another missile hits before that can happen), then stick the sensor on a separate chip, wire the sensor to a NOT gate outside the chip and wire the NOT gate to the activation input of the sensor's chip.

Of course, you need to make sure that your missile destroy themselves on impact. That won't be a problem with real missile objects but in case you are using custom shapes you will have to do the above on the missile as well: put a tag "enemy" on the boss and an impact sensor on the missile responding to that tag, activating a destroyers.

Actually, projectile sensors have 5 options : water, electricity, plasma, and fire, and a final option called "any".
I think paint activates the "any", not sure if it activates "water". Though I realized that electricity was made of invisible non-painting paint. I played a bit and managed to create paint of all paint colors using electricity, so it's MGS pack-free. And they activated the projectile sensor set to any, but I can't remember if it activated water or electricity. (LBP2 plasma is also made of paint, though it's anti-gravity)

Again, if you found out how it works, you can still use my health meter toolkit, there's a projectile system in it!
I rebuilt the level with a nice tutorial so it's easy to get now ^^
