Cybernetic Adventures Omega (Four level series finale) SPOTLIGHTED!

Archive: 20 posts

At long last, the series is finally completed. The final chapters of the "Cybernetic Adventures" series has arrived, and it is bigger than my previous levels. The finale features four separate levels that will amaze the players with layer glitches, various gameplay and some cinematics.

INTRO: THE CYBERNETIC WAR (MAIN LINK ABOVE):

The intro movie is a seven and a half minute long cutscene that's filled with action, humor and plenty of surprises.

PART 1: CORRUPTED VALLEY (http://lbp.me/v/9dxn0d)

This level features challenging obstacles that can only go through with grappling hook, creatinator and grabinators. Use the grappling hook to avoid virus worms, fire the controllable missiles with the creatinator, and battle the watch tower with grabinators. As you noticed in one of the images of part 1, the volcanoes and dark clouds are painted by me.

PART 2: VIRUS HIDEOUT (http://lbp.me/v/9dxv3q)

This level includes more of various platforming gameplay, including low-gravity, security robot dodge and controllable platforms.

PART 3: MALICIOUS (http://lbp.me/v/9dxwez)

The final level of "Cybernetic Adventures" takes you to the epic showdown against Malicious in four boss battles. This level also features my own custom music, which can be heard in the last boss fight of the series, and I done some voice acting in this level. If you have key stickers of my previous levels, you're in luck. You can use them to gain more points, and this level's custom music can be yours if you collect all nine key stickers.

Well, that's all I can say in the series, but you'll be surprised what I put in all four levels when you play them. Hope you enjoy the grand finale of the series.

Huge thanks to Jaquan1254, RickRock777, Biorogue, Sabre_ and Z1091990 for getting a chance to beta test part 1, and extra thanks to Sabre_ and Z1091990 for beta testing part 2.

I've been planning on doing a big marathon run on this whole series. I may just have to do that now, and I'll give feedback on these last levels when I'm done.2012-01-21 04:14:00

Hey Justin, your series overall deserves more plays. It's an officials LBP crime you aren't getting more.

I enjoyed the level. A nice, simplistic, effective design. Solid Platforming and puzzles.

Only one issue. On a boss battle, when I got the rockets the controls were reversed. Was this meant to be the case. It increased the difficulty quite a bit. If intentionally, I'd recommend making them normal, if not, I'd recommend promptly fixing.

Nicely done on the level and series. Most people don't have the self discipline to stick with a series. Congrats on being a rare breed of creators.

NOOOOOOO! PlayStation Network is off for updates! I MUST PLAY THIS!!!
I can't even queue it... Well, I'll leave the PC on untill then ! At first I came for F4F, now I want more to play this than to F4F ! It looks incredible !
(though I recommend using another program than movie maker to make trailers )

Thanks, Cymbol. Glad you enjoyed it.

I don't know if you read Piper's speech about using the missiles, but you supposed to shoot the missile while facing right or top right for complete accuracy control of it. I got something else in mind in case the missile is too much for most players.

I've been playing for too long so my head hurts, I guess I'll take a F4F break ^^
I played the two first levels, I'l continue the series later. Overall I really like the story and the style, it's great. The gameplay wasn't anything new, but it was good and challenging enough (even if I prefer experimental gameplay). The art was pretty too, though I' scared it might get long to always play with this red sky atmosphere... I mean, 4 levels of this... I can't say until later, but there's a lot of variety on the game itself, that's good ! Really enjoyed it!

Would you mind taking a look at my health meter toolkit ? I don't know if you do logic programming a lot (but I guess you know a bit at least), but I need ideas about what else I could add to it. V4 just got out ! https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=62776-Health-Meter-Toolkit-All-your-health-meter-needs

Oh, ok. I'll have to be more focused then. I thought I was facing the right way. But maybe I was switching while avoiding the plasma.

Thanks.

Well... this is a great series. I played the first one about a year ago, and seeing this final 4 part series of levels is pretty great.

First off, the pros:

Fantastic characters. I think the characters you created are adorable. They all seem to have their own personalities, and I love the way they help you along.
The little spaceships in the beginning look like they belong in a full game. Wish I got to pilot one of them!
The effect when showing the fortress for the Great Malicious was very cool - they way you used the 3D glitch and moved from flat to 3D slowly to create dramatic perception was a great idea.
The area where you aim the missiles after firing was especially fun.
In fact, I gotta throw out there - it's nice to see someone who isn't afraid to throw a bunch of challenges out there and create a really gameplay packed level.
When entering level 2, I LOVED the idea of starting out the level pointing them to the other levels instead of using level locks.

Niggles:

There were a few thoughts I had as I played through. Everything worked properly, mind you, but there were several places where it took me a bit to understand what I was doing, so I thought I'd just mention them.

Part 1, near the beginning. When you grab after jumping from the burning platform. I didn't see anything that told me to grab. At first I was trying to somehow get above the area. No big deal, I figured it out.

Part 2 - Robot that shoots the huge plasma balls - at first I couldn't tell what to do when I got the the jump pads. I never noticed the missing piece of material on the catwalk above, so I kept dying. Once again, figured it out - but maybe some kind of cue as the player walks by to make that little piece of missing material stand out.

Section with the moving gamepad buttons where you need to hit the proper button - based on other games, I thought I needed to press the 4 arrow buttons instead of using the stick. Maybe make either work? I was pretty tired by the time I was playing it, so I don't know if other players would have this problem... but thought I'd mention it.

All-in-all a really good time. I'm too tired tonight to go into the 3rd part - but I have it queued up for tomorrow night.

Like ccubbage above me I enjoyed this level as well. Some parts were trying, but they were a decent amount of difficulty. I really like the missile boss fight, i was crazy trying to move and aim at the same time. but I had fun. I wasn't able to complete level 2 and I tried really hard to, the part where you carry the bomb, I could not figure out where to take it, I spent at least 10 mins going through the area, still liked the level, just couldn't finish that part. The last boss was really cool, I like how you broke down the fight into different stages, it really added to the depth of the experience. Loved these last few level and congrats on another series finished! 2012-01-22 15:00:00

Thanks, CCubbage. Glad you enjoyed the first three Omega levels. Yeah, I seem to forgot to add the directional buttons to the arrows at the button-mashing minigame of part 2. Hope you get a chance to play part 3 tonight.

Thanks to you too, damaz10. I'm surprised that you finished part 2 and 3, but not part 1. Well...here's a hint on the bomb part: "X marks the spot". Ha, I forgot, I accomplished the same mission I succeeded in LBP1 by completing "The Hero Chronicles" level series, except that I made Omega a lot bigger than Phantom Planet. And congrats on the second "Jak and Daxter" for being spotlighted, DZ.

Finally got to sit down and play this, sorry took so long. I really liked it. Great special effects, cool characters and superb gameplay. I wasn't able to finish though. Here are a couple of points I noticed. Glad you added those arrows in the first section with the missle helmet BTW.

the first boss I came to I found the missiles weren't consistent. They sometimes acted opposite. I didn't know if this was intentional or not. so when hitting left the missile would go right. after beating the boss it took me a few minutes to figure out just where to go. I didn't even notice the platforms as stepping stones to the ledge. The section with the moving lasers and you have to weave in and out while carrying a bomb, man, those lasers move fast. After this section you had to grab a big platform use it to slide that rail. I could not get past this section for the life of me.
I'll be returning to complete this series as I think it's really really good. Awesome stuff.

Ok, got through the final level. Frankly, this was my favorite part of the entire series. I had a BLAST with all the different sections. My favorite was grappling across the divide while falling to grapple the bad guy. Tremendously fun, and you changed it up by changing out the objects you were grappling across.

One thought (not really a critisism - loved the section): When fighting the big head and the dragon head - LOVED it, but it did nag me a bit that when I hit the weak point I got points but didn't get any visual feedback. It would probably be a more satisfying fight if you had a really cool feedback effect when hitting the weak point. Wasn't a big deal, but it was a thought.

Fantastic job on this one!

Thanks for the feedback of part 1, Biorogue and thanks for the feedback of part 3, CCubage.

I updated part 1 and 2 with the following fixes:
PART1
-I received word from Gravel in the review that a Beta Soldier riding a comb that moves vertically got stuck after respawned into a checkpoint near it. That has been solved by adjusting the trigger of one of the virus worms' appearances.

-I added a subtitle to remind the players to face right while firing a missile when players enter the boss' arena. This way, players will gain a better control of the missiles while going against a boss.

-I noticed that the weak point of the watch tower that launches lasers is a bit too high. I lowered it, so players can get a better shot of throwing a bomb against the weak point.

PART 2
- As suggested by CCubage, I added the directional pads to the arrows in the button-mashing minigame.

-I think part 2 needs a bit more visuals, so I added more details in some areas of part 2.

Hope the first update of part 1 and 2 works.

I just played this and wow...

I didn't expect such an awesome series when you replied to my thread!

I'm left simply and utterly pleased with what I have just played... no, binged on!

The intro movie was awesome! Really got the story going with some nice comical moments and cool camera effects.

The second level was no letdown! Awesome gameplay, challenging and generally a pleasure to play!

The third level was amazing too! With even more unique and innovative gameplay.

Have I mentioned the visuals yet? They're fan-rocket-cheetah-dark-matter-tastic! Great use of the 3D layer glitch!

And then... The Boss!

It was awesome! Mightily epic with all the different stages!

And then to finish off with all the characters involved with their little speeches was a nice touch.

Well done! I have and <3 all the levels!

I played the intro and loved it, but I got sidetracked when my dog got sick on the carpet (Gross, huh )
Rest assured I'm not done yet and I will come back and finish it whenever I can! You've put a lot of heart into this series and I'm impressed youve come this far with just yourself working on it ( Most of the time, anyway) Glad you have!

Dialogues and cutscenes are very stupid, but gameplay and some original ideas are amazing. Hearthed second and third levels because they are awesome.
About part when you should follow screen and press buttons: I can press needed button many times and meter will go fast, is it supposed to be so?
Final level and boss fights are very well designed, but the last part when you control the robot - its loop is very confusing.

Hi (and OMG, I so owe you an apology for such a late F4F! SORRY!)

I started playing this the other night, I got half way through the intro, and my internet went down , and has only just been fixed (four blooming days!)

Anyhoo: Real nice intro, I can't say I was wowed by the scenery, it is all very blocky and a bit boring, but you have a fine grasp of camera work, logic, and story telling, so it didn't detract from the fun.
Started playing part one this afternoon....DUDE, I have spent like TEN bloody minutes trying to fire that blasted rocket from the creatinator, and gettin VERY frustrated. I cant see how anyone has managed to control the rocket to get to its target. There are two issues, number one, when you move the right stick, the rocket just spins in circles, you certainly can't clearly control it....Place a controlinator on it with an advanced mover, NOT a rocket rotator!.....
The other issue is it takes SO **** long for the rocket to respawn, making it doubly frustarting having to wait to try yet again to control the next annoying rocket!

Sorry, but I gave up, not a great review I know, maybe it's just me, but after ten minutes of trying the same thing over and over again, I loose interest.

Nothing to worry about, Shade. Since some players have difficulties with the missiles, I decided to change the creatinator use. Instead of firing missiles, players can now fire a homing bomb, which is a lot easier to control than the missiles. I didn't add the rocket rotater tool. It just fired this way, and I tried to slow it down, but it'll end up dropping down to the ground. Note that just like the missile in the previous update, players need to fire the bomb while facing right, so that the bomb can be in normal control. Hope this makes a huge difference in part 1.
