LittleBig Bowling

Archive: 8 posts

LittleBig Bowling has taken quite some time to create and there's still more I would like to do lol. This is the second version which includes power and spin meters and some upgraded visuals. The level supports up to four players with a combined team score but it hasn't been fully tested so leave a comment if you have any issues!
Otherwise, Enjoy!

This is rather entertaining, it has a surprising amount of subtly to lining up your shots.

I thin that the hook gauge could be slower though. I found it very easy to get full power, but really struggled to get any shots that were anywhere near decent consistently. I also was unsure about how the game was supposed to end I didn't really see anything tracking the frames. And when the lane clearer dropped permanently I couldn't leave the controlinator.

I also would have liked a more satisfying crash sound as I hit the pins.

A very well built bowling alley and a great game of skill that doesn't take long to understand but hard top master.

EXCELLENT!!! Just like the real thing!! Maybe more noise when the skittles go down and slower ball (or does low gravity mess up the logic? ) Loved it anyway.2012-01-25 15:52:00

Thank you!
The hook gauge is sped up purposely so that the game isn't so easy that a 300 is possible every time lol. One trick is that after you set your hook you can still move the ball position on the lane, so it's just a matter of adjustment but as you said it's hard to master.
A proper display for frames is something I neglected to put in, but I'm working on one and it should be done before too long. In the game's current state it goes through 11 frames. I'm also working on putting in the system that gives you either the extra ball or two depending on what you get in the tenth frame but it's more difficult than it seems. As for the controllinator I'm not quite sure what you mean, you should automatically leave the controllinator when you've finished the 11th frame.

Thank you much!
A pin crash effect is something else I've yet to put in, to be honest I just couldn't find a decent sound that I liked but I can't say I really tried lol. If anybody has a suggestion for a pin crash sound I would gladly try it out. The ball speed is dependent on the power meter, and when you stop it at that first or second knotch on the power meter it goes SLOW lol.

I worked in a bowling ally for 2 years so naturally I had to play this. My first thoughts were, how could a bowling game work on LBP and this level is a perfect example of how it can. I love the way you have to adjust with each step. I like how the curve meter is a bit "loose" so that you must always adjust to it. It kind of randomizes each shot this way, but skill can still be a determining factor.

The feel of it is as authentic as I think you can get minus the pins crashing. The look is pretty good and has a bowling ally atmosphere to it. This level provides an immense amount of replay value, but I kinda wish there was a scorecard to track your progress. Now I haven't the slightest on how that could be done, but I think it would be a nice touch. A ball return would be cool too, but I'm getting a bit greedy at this point.

Overall this is a really good level that captures the essence of Bowling. This is easily worth 4 stars!

Great Job!
