Resident Evil 6 Announced!!

Archive: 22 posts

Finally!! The game I've been waiting on to be announced.
The release date is 11/20/2012. It's such a long wait, it's like a Skyrim wait all over again....

Capcom today confirmed Resident Evil 6 is in development and is coming this November.

The game is arriving on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on November 20, 2012. A PC version is coming at a later date. Capcom describes the game as a "blending action and survival horror" and is "the most ambitious, immersive and feature rich title of the series to date and promises to be the dramatic horror experience of the year."

Resident Evil 6 will follow Leon S. Kennedy and Chris Redfield who will be "joined by new characters, each with their own unique perspective and involvement, in this relentless dramatic horror experience enacted on a global scale."

Here's a synopsis of the game's plot:

It has been ten years since the Raccoon City incident and the President of the United States has decided to reveal the truth behind what took place in the belief that it will curb the current resurgence in bioterrorist activity. Due to be by the President’s side is his personal friend and Raccoon City survivor, Leon S. Kennedy, but when the venue suffers a bioterrorist attack, Leon is forced to face a President transformed beyond recognition and make his hardest ever decision.

At the same time, Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance member Chris Redfield arrives in China, itself under threat of a bioterrorist attack. With no country safe from these attacks and the ensuing outbreaks, the entire world’s population is united by a common fear that there is no hope left.

“Resident Evil 6 represents a giant stride forward in the evolution of the series,” commented Katsuhiko Ichii, Head of R&D and Global Marketing. “The development team, led by Hiroyuki Kobayashi, is working tirelessly to deliver the most impressive Resident Evil title ever both in terms of scope and production values.

"We are all genuinely excited by the title and cannot wait to share it with the world.”

Resident Evil 6 is also getting numerous retail pre-order bonuses. GameStop, Best Buy and Amazon.com will each get an exclusive map that will function with various modes in the game. Additional details will be revealed at a later date.

The debut trailer as well as the first teaser image have been posted below.

Ugh, you picked one of the worst ones to start with IMO. The older ones are much better. Then again, I guess it all depends on what kind of games you play normally.

Anyway...super excited for this. Hopefully we get some more details about the new characters and game play soon. The utter lack of info is killing me.

THERE IS NO GOD.
I can't even hate on them for it because Resident Evil is a console game and it's lucky PC gets it at all!

Anyways, looking forward to new info!

Very cool.
Very excited.
I liked the first 3 REs (even the ramakes on Gamecube, even RE Zero, great game...) though I never found them scary, what gave anxiety was only the locked visuals and the "what's behind the corner" scene.

Resident Evil 4 is a gaming masterpiece. Period.

Resident Evil 5 was a great action game, I understand how fans might not like it, but it was a hell of a great game, though messed so much in the control section.

Silent Hill was surely more scary, and Dead Space just with the noises and lights added a tension never sawn in RE titles.
So imho Resident Evil 6 has to learn from Dead Space a lot about scarying people.

Though...I absolutely loved what I saw in the trailer, a really high production product, maybe the biggest thing ever come out of Japan.
I must say for me the cherry on the pie would have been Jill and Ada in the trailer.
I think they will be in the game for sure in a way or another, maybe a DLC since we're talking about Capcom.
Anyway, thanks for this Capcom.
This excites me way more than The Last Of Us.

Glad to see that they're bringing back zombies, RE5 was I think too much of a departure and hopefully the rumors are true about RE returning to its roots a little more this time.

The Gamecube versions were some of the best out there IMO....I still remember getting the crap scared out of me the first time a crimson zombie got off the floor and ran after me in Remake.

Resident Evil 4 is a great game, there's no doubt about that. Same with Resident Evil 5. But they aren't true to what made the series great in the first place. They aren't survival horror anymore. That's my biggest issue with the Resident Evil universe as it stands right now.

Admittedly, I've never played Silent Hill so I can't comment on that. Dead Space is creepy, sure, but I have yet to find myself at a point where I didn't want to leave a room and move on to the next area. Throwing a boat load of (very fast) enemies at you while simultaneously sucking the oxygen out of the air is not so much scary as it is frustrating. I have plenty of health and ammo, I just have to run around long enough to hold em' off so I don't have to repeat this section another time (I'm looking at you, Dead Space 2).

Resident Evil is more about survival over traditional 'scary'. Take Code Veronica for instance. You almost never have enough ammo in that game to get through a section and if you do happen to survive, good luck finding herbs or first aid sprays to heal yourself. I have a save file where I'm nearly dead, out of ammo, and stuck in the save room with giant poisonous moths outside. Never rmind the character you have to play as. A college student who has absolutely no proper training whatsoever is expected to survive all that? Yeah, right. And you know it's gonna be a good time when your knife does more damage than your guns.

And heaven forbid if you forgot to save and died in the old games. You were repeating hours (if not the entire game) over again. Now, everything has checkpoints and auto saves. Where's the survival in that? RE 4 eliminated your tool to allow saving, but 5 eliminated the need to save entirely. WTF?

'Scary' for me is worrying if I have enough ammo to survive another Hunter attack. Or what I'll do when Nemesis decides to crash through a wall at me. Or not bothering to burn that zombie in that back hallway cause I won't need to go there again, only to find out whoops, I never took the stupid jewel out of the moose's eye. Hello, Crimson Head! I'm not scared of the dark or things that go bump in the night. I'm scared of facing the horde of zombies in the next room with the seven bullets in my gun. Or William Birkin in his second form with nothing but a bow gun and some acid rounds.

This is why Resident Evil 4 and 5 aren't truly Resident Evil, imo. It was never about surviving. It was about getting from point A to point B (more so with 5) with plenty of health and ammo scattered about on the way. Enemies don't drop health/ammo. Period.

Lost in Nightmares is a perfect example of what a modern RE game should be. It's terrifying, you've got crappy guns with low ammo, and the enemies you're up against are twice your size and 1000 times as deadly. The odds are definitely not in your favor. Yes. THAT is survival horror. That is Resident Evil. The only time I get this vibe with Resident Evil 4 or 5 is when playing on professional difficulty. I shouldn't have to ramp up the difficulty setting to get the full experience. But with the use of infinite ammo it's back to square one.

Though it's really a matter of opinion I suppose. What one person finds scary may not necessarily scare someone else. Fatal Frame is a good example of this. I'm terrified of it. Fighting ghosts in creepy haunted houses armed only with a camera? Sign me up! But my brother thinks it's the dumbest thing ever.

Anyway, I can only hope that Capcom took the elements that made Lost in Nightmares and the older games great and applied them to Resident Evil 6. Doubt it, but one can hope.

P.S. If you fine people here can't already tell, I have a sick obsession with passion for this series. I can talk about it til I'm blue in the face and keep talking. Or in this case, typing.

Owned every main entry in the Resi series along with Code Veronica on Dreamcast. Unlike most fanboys nowadays I embrace the changes made in some of my favorite franchises assuming the core game is still great (Final Fantasy, RE etc). Dead Space is the new king of survival horror, deal with it and love Resi for what it now is. This has now become my most anticipated game of 2012 supplanting Ni No Kuni. The Resident Evil name carries weight and it will be a titan standing over giants come this holiday season.

Oh and as already stated, Resi 4 is a masterpiece, no accident that it has been on virtually on every top 100 list ever compiled, usually within the top 10/20

@Ninja_Gnome
You call scary what I call "challenging"
I'm joking about it, I clearly see your point and rescpect it.
As OCK said, I favour changes in games (except in DMC), if I have to pick a flaw in RE4...it's only the tank controls...I don't remember to have lots of ammos in that game...
RE5, the controls, the overall low difficulty and the dumb IA.

In the end...I consider myself a gamer more than a fan, if a game is cool and entertains me I don't care for his legacy or genre that much because I love to interact with worlds and place I have never seen.

I think Capcom won't screw this one.

When you think about it, it's not really so bad. Wasn't RE5 released like 4 years after being announced? I'm actually impressed with Capcom keeping this under wraps for as long as they did.

I'm not a "fanboy" that can't accept change. In fact I'll probably be first in line when Operation Raccoon City comes out, and that's as far from Resident Evil as you can possibly get.

I guess I just have too much of a connection to the older games and don't really understand why Capcom went balls-out action rather than sticking to the what made the classics great.

I don't really find Dead Space scary and I don't feel RE4 is a gaming masterpiece, but they are really great games nonetheless. That said, I respect everyone's opinions and appreciate the respect in return.

Now on the subject of Wesker...I really hope they don't bring him back. In fact, I'm a little surprised they are bringing Chris back. RE5 pretty much wrapped up the Chris/Jill/Wesker scenario. I was really kind of hoping for a Leon/Claire/Ada/Hunk wrap-up. But meh, I'll take what I can get at this point.

"The outbreak goes global on November 20 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The PC infection will follow soon after."

Why do I get the feeling that 'soon after' means a month or so... Capcom disregarding us PC guys once again. If they don't release DLC on PC like they did in RE5 i'm going to lose all hope in Capcom.

It's right.
To each their own.
Actually I never thought a comeback would have been possible.
Devs have always to work around the hardware limits.
Resident Evil 1,2,3 had pre rendered backgrounds, fixed cameras, kind of limited amount of enemies in the screen.
Sometimes the genious spark exactly when you have to work around the hardware, when you take advantage of the limits.
RE4,5 had way less limits and tried different things, in their way they were much more innovative than RE2,3.
So, the series has always changed, now it's trying to keep on par with Uncharted and Gears Of War, that are 2 Colossi now.
Is it bad? No, because you must always aim at the best in the market, then add your twist.
Besides the incredible amount of stupid choices, Capcom is maybe the Japanese dev that knows more their stuff.
Japanese devs got pushed back because of the lack of good decisions by Capcom and Square.
But I see things are changing...now if Capcom only takes back DmC from Ninja Theory...

This is really interesting

That was pretty interesting indeed. Seems there are quite a few throwbacks to previous games, which I am certainly digging.

And yeah DMC really needs to be taken away from Ninja Theory. But I'll probably still end up giving that one a go as well, just to see.

That was a great analysis of the trailer. Interestingly they did not comment on Leon attacking a zombie with a fire axe. This might suggest the game will have weapons/objects laying around the environment for the player to use at their discretion. Also, "the logo represents spiders and webs". Hmmm, the internet would beg to differ...2012-01-29 09:41:00

I'll go ahead and assume you're referring to this (http://kotaku.com/5878345/youll-never-see-the-resident-evil-6-logo-the-same-way/gallery/1). Lol, poor Capcom. First that, then misspelling the name of their own game. Tsk, tsk.

I only played RE5 and to be honest is wasn't anything special. I liked the third person gameplay to it, but the not being able to move and shoot, rather lazy combat system and unsatisfing ending put me right off Resident evil completely.

I do all the story co-op with Shaynamac, get to the boss and it was the easiest level throughout the entire campaign, didn't get hit once, didn't die once and didn't have any problems shooting the guy/monster with an RPG and one hit killing him on the hardest difficulty.. Unsatisfing and unchallenging ending ..>.>
