LBPC Spotlights on LBP2 Newsfeed.

Archive: 23 posts

When you log into LBP2, it showcases the latest LBPC spotlights. Too bad its in the news section and not a tab, but still, a nice addition.

Two questions:

Will this be a continuing feature?

Will other sites be included?

Anyway, nice to see LBP try to offer another way of highlighting great levels.

Hope this is just the beginning of the improvements Spaff referred to.

(For anyone wondering, it was just the last Spotlight, so, if you were in Spotlights before that, probably just missed out. Always next time I guess, if this continues.)

yes, spaff said this is just a test but should become a regular feature and other site's picks will as well. It's pretty dang cool. Is there a way to get back to the news once you leave it though?

As an experiment, I've added this spotlight list into the in-game news.

it's a bit ugly and simple because the news functionality we have is a bit ropey - but pelase tell me what you think, and if we have a good response from it, there is no reason why we couldn't do this for every espisode.

We will also have to do the same for the other fan site spotlights / picks too so we'd have to work out a schedule but.. yeah anyways tell me what you think!

Also - whoever is in charge of the spotlight, could you please email me and we can talk about it?

Wow this is excellent news. So many great levels will be getting the attention they deserve - maybe the dreadful Cool Pages will be a thing of the past! Not only that but it's more efficient for the end user too, having a list there in game instead of queuing everything up on a computer ready for their next play.2012-01-17 01:07:00

That's great. Finally the great levels in the Spotlight will get the exposure they deserve.
Also, in-game it will be easier to queue and play them. This is the way I add levels from the Spotlight to my queue:

-Go to the spotlight page;
-Use the middle mouse button on all the spotlighted levels to open their threads in new tabs;
-In each level showcase thread that's been opened click on the link to LBP.me;
-Each LBP.me link (unnecessarily) opens in a new tab so after opening each link I have to close each level showcase tab
-Realize LBP.me never saves my login so each page I opened is asking me to sign in;
-facepalm;
-Login in one of the LBP.me pages and refresh all the other tabs;
-Queue the levels and close each tab after doing so;

So yeah, having it directly in-game will be much easier.

@snipy There's actually an easier way dude.

1. go to the spotlight page
2. click on the level BADGE and be whisked to the LBP.me page (no need to middle click, it opens in a new tab/window)
3. sign in to LBP.me
4. queue level
5. by all means, once finished playing the level, then come back and click on the thread link and comment in thread (something I am terrible about doing myself) and give any feed back you may have.

It's only been a few days and already we've seen a great feature implemented into the game. I'm impressed. From the sound of spaff's post, we're going to see every site's spotlights added

I didn't really have much hope of getting Mm picked, but a spotlight... hmm.

EDIT: About the cool pages, I have a little bro that loves playing them. They may not be to my tastes, but now we've got our own 'cool' page in the form of the spotlight. This should turn out great.

How do you access the news apart from clicking on the button when it tells you it's been updated? I can see that being a problem, I can't see it anywhere.2012-01-17 19:56:00

you have to click on recent activity then Triangle, then untick all the options EXCEPT the news, click ok, circle or X (I forgot that part) then you can scroll to the news2012-01-17 20:01:00

There should be another button (above Queue) to view the news easily.2012-01-18 11:23:00

Oh I see. Level badge instead of title. That'll save some effort, thanks. I still wish LBP.me could remember our login though. At this day and age it's annoying not having that option.

And I'd be giving feedback all over the place if I were currently connected to the PSN. See, back in September, a few days after I launched my first level and was starting to get involved with the level showcase I left my country to come study in Belgium. The university dorm I'm staying in has internet, but it's not compatible with the PS3 so I have been cut off from PSN for a long time now. So yeah, I haven't laid eyes in a LBP community level for 4 months. I'll go lay down and cry in the fetal position now. (on the plus side, I have a few hundreds of levels and a dozen or so MM picks piled up in my queue by now, ready to be played in a huge LBP2 marathon when I get home)

I don't know what happened but LBP.me remembered my login today after turning PC off last night and back on today. It was still signed in which was pretty random but sweet. No idea if it's a newly added feature or what happened. I'm using firefox and as far as I'm aware I have no settings ticked to make it remember my login, I sign in manually on most sites.

@OneEyedBanshee
Something to do with the expiration of cookies afaik. It saves your login at a specific site until either the site or your browser deletes it....???
- I have absolutely zero experience with this, so feel free to correct me.

Yeah, it could be that. I'm guessing SnipySev is using Chrome since it treats each new tab as its own session. With cookies disabled I can imagine it asking for you to log in each time in that instance.

You can configure how your browser handles cookies in its options. You can usually choose between keeping them until they expire or until the browser closes, it may only take selecting one of those to resolve SnipySev's problem.

Nope, I use Firefox. And the session keeps open after I log in, but logs off when I turn the computer off (or after I close the browser and some time passses but I'm not sure about that). It'd be great if there was the option to keep it logged in on the same computer indefinitely. The problem is that I always forget I'm not logged in before opening all LBP.me pages in new tabs, so I have to log into LBP.me in one of them and refresh the rest with F5.

Strange. You should be able to stay logged in for days at a time even after closing the browser or turning off your PC.

Is FF configured to retain cookies until they expire? For me the options are under tools > options > privacy.

Yup, it remembers the cookies. It says so in that exact tools screen.

The only other thing I can think of is there's some conflicting setting that has been selected like clear history when FF closes.

I wouldn't know. Never messed around with the setting of this browser. And it remembers all other sites' login.
