Help with Prize Bubbles

Archive: 8 posts

I feel really dumb for having to ask this, but I have been wondering how to do this since I saw it used in a story level:How do I make it to where a switch can collect a Prize Bubble for the player?

I have a score checker set to a score of 4,000. I have it hooked up to the prize bubble, but when I gain a score of 4,000 I do not collect the prize. I've tried it a couple times with other switches as well. I feel like there's just ONE BIG OBVIOUS IMPORTANT step that I'm missing... If anybody has any help, or can tell me how to figure this out, please reply.

Thanks in advance.

Which story level was that? I can't remember, but I'll take a look and see if I can explain how it's done.2012-01-16 19:55:00

There are many. Like when you are controlling something and it hits the prize bubble instead but you still collect it. Or in the Rescue the Sackbot minigame in the Move Pack, the prize bubbles get collected without your sackperson ever actually touching them. I just need to know how to make it to where the player can collect a Prize without having their Sackperson actually walk over it. (So through switches and triggers and such.)2012-01-16 22:06:00

I'm not sure if you collect it without actually touching it in some way.

Haven't checked, but as suggestions, you can likely only collect them with your sackperson or through use of a controlinator / movinator. Have a look at the tweak menus on both, as well as the prize bubble's, there may be something in there that allows objects other than your sackperson to collect them. The main reason I don't think you're able to collect through means of a switch or level is due to the lack of any player data. The sackperson who gets the prize bubble gets the points for it, the controlinator and movinator also carry player data you see, which would mean they are also able to collect the points. If a switch triggers it, the game doesn't know who to award the points, and if you're saying you've tried hooking it up that way already this is probably the reason why it doesn't work.

If it is possible, the only way I can think of is through controlinators and sackbots by hooking the output feed of the controlinator into an AND gate along with the switch you want to trigger the prize bubble with, to maintain player data. If that doesn't work, I don't know what will.

Thank you. I wasn't sure if you could or not, but this info is very helpful. If I put what I've seen and what you've said together, it makes sense. I'll either try those tips out, or find a way to circumnavigate this issue altogether. Thanks for the help!2012-01-17 00:16:00

Um, you can wire anything to bubbles to collect them AFAIK. That's what I did in my paint glitch giveaway. I just used a button wired to them. It won't wort in create mode though.2012-01-17 00:52:00

You can collect a prize bubble by stepping on a button; or activating a grab switch or player sensor. Other logic like toggle, selector, 2 and 3 way switch won't do the trick. Here's my version of a solution without using Sackbots:
Put a player sensor on a circuit board, and set the detection radius to max. Connect the sensor output to you prize bubble.
Connect the score sensor to activate the circuit board. This way the player sensor can't activate until you reach your score.
Note: If your level is multiplayer, the 50pts for collecting the prize will be awarded to the player physically closest to the bubble, not the player who achieved the high score.
