The Unknown Depths of the Cavernous Catacombs (lbp2 remake)

Archive: 11 posts

One of the last lbp1 levels that I made, and probably one of my better lbp1 levels. It is not a complete overhaul. I made a lot of changes to the existing level, though most of them you probably won't notice too much.

Most of the logic was switched over.

A lot of decorations added.

Scorpion boss fight is via grapple hook.

Cutscenes and camera now via sequencer.

Sackbots replace the cutouts.

Final boss fight was modified slightly.

Added a background and majorly tweaked the lighting to suit the theme.

A few minor gameplay areas were changed.

I think that about covers it. I had wanted to go back to this level when lbp2 came out but did not feel like the time was right. Now that I am planning on another installment in this series, I felt like it was a good time for a re-release. I hope you enjoy the new version. Any and all feedback is welcome and appreciated.

Awesome awesome awesome with a little awesome sauce sprinkled on top of an awesome pie. Incredible level design. I love the use of space, with everything so compact and twisted and yet you know where to go at all times. The level's aesthetics were very well done too, with a professional looking color scheme and theme.

I'm just glad you gave us infinite respawns by the bosses. They were a little tough, but that's my fault for sucking, not yours!

If I have ONE criticism, just ONE... it would be that now, my level looks like complete crap.

Job well done.

Wow, thank you very much! Hard to believe I made the majority of this over a year ago in lbp1. It was actually my entry in the lbn comp called sack to the future where the task was to build a sci fi themed level. Glad it can still be enjoyed and I had some fun going back and upgrading it. Thanks again, more dark tri united coming soon...2012-01-11 02:14:00

Thanks so much. I am actuqally surprised by the positive response. Didn't think it would do so well since its mostly still very much lbp1 style gameplay. Thanks again!2012-01-13 01:43:00

enjoyed the remake, and really enjoy this storyline and I'm glad that you'll be adding another chapter to this tale. Man, that final boss fight. Just when I think I've found a little hidy spot that I can shoot safely from, bam! a plasma ball gets me. Great job shookie, I loved all the little different pathways and all the nooks and crannies in here. Very fun to play.2012-01-13 13:54:00

Yeah, this is interesting the level design does 'feel' very LBP1ish I like the design though. Lots of little nooks to jump between, no real platforming danger though. Its a very well made LBP1 stage and the way you propel yourself through the environment works, but would be more 'exciting' (for lack of a better word) if there was more platforms. As an example the push up sections that are old skool bounce pads play it very safe (an hold over from NOT having bounce pads) I think that you could get flung around more. The same with the cogs you grab there could have been more things to do while in the air if that makes sense...

The final boss was strange. The first arm on the left had an obvious pattern but the right arm seemed quite random. I think that I had more trouble here than your intention. I also fell through the floor at it's feet, but I think you had gas down there so it killed me.

Lol, this may sound more harsh than intended, I did yay, and heart the stage so I guess what I am trying to do is work out the difference between LBP1 and LBP2 platform design.

Thanks for the feedback! I didn't change the gameplay too much because I knew a lot of folks who would appreciate the old lbp1 experience. Not sure about the boss though because I made one arm and simply copied it and reversed it for arm two, essentially they should be the same because they are the same, just a reflection. Thanks for checking it out. More in the series shall be coming soon, full on lbp2. It shall be what I am calling an "interactive platformer."2012-01-14 23:32:00
