MGS4 - Liquid Sun

Archive: 10 posts

Hey guys! Thought I'd finally publish my first real level in LBP2. That being said, it really is just a glorified tech demo, as a result of wanting to showcase some new toys I had created in LBP. Anyway, as you may have guessed, it's my take on a MGS4 tribute level. Parts might be a touch glitchy since I had to rush this to get it online before I return to college.

Anyway, it's a short little mgs spoof platformer based on the first act of the game. So strictly single player of course. Contents include functioning weapons, sackbot enemies, alert mode (!), a scale Mark 2, cardboard boxes and last but not least... GEKKO!!!

Oh yeah, in case you are playing this having never played MGS4 before, the only way to take out a gekko is with 3 shots from the M82A2 Rifle to the "head". Also, if you find you can't progress for some reason, try taking out all enemies in the area and wait for the music to return to the more calm track and a door should open somewhere.

Anyway, enjoy!

I usually don't like MGS levc0els... but that was LBP1 I couldn't imagine you would make an MGS level and not have some pretty inovative and super fun stuff in it. Therefore I will queue it up and give ya some feedback too. 2012-01-08 02:19:00

Just played through it. I really liked the level, but aiming the weapons felt a bit clunky. Maybe its just me, but overall great job. Another thing to me is that it felt like the gekkos were a bit overused, but I thought they were pretty well made.2012-01-08 02:37:00

Just played it and really enjoyed it! I think if kojima made MGS4 in LBP2 he wouldn't do a thing different. although I didn't finish it because there was a bit where two gekkos came at once, and it seemed like a door was meant to open bit it didn't. I shot at everything for a while and then gave up, but thats when I realised I have no idea how you made the gekkos legs. I played your other LBP2 lvl with the mech and I'm guessing it uses the same technique. It's as if your using wobble bolts except I can't find a way to make wobble bolts run backwards... Please put me out of my misery!2012-01-09 21:52:00

Thanks for the responses guys! Depending on how the thermo behaves I might try work in more more soldiers to fight. I realise I may have put in too many gekkos (then again, the gekkos in the section between the catapults only spawn if you are spotted, try crawling around with the c.box to avoid being spotted).

As for the gekko legs, no wobble bolts (which can run backwards anyway), just a complex invisible system of normal bolts, and rotators, held together with winches and elastic.

Played this and loved it right from the start, being a big mgs fan myself you've really nailed the tone and experience of mgs4, I loved all the aspects you integrated into lbp. I didn't run into anything buggy execept not spawning after crashing through the window after being launched. You even included the danger marker around snake! Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed it the entire time I played it, from the sneaking using the cardboard box and can, to the multiple guns you can use, I myself was very impressed with the way the gekko moved and walked, I guessed it was some type of invisible walking mechanism, but I'm very curious how this was accomplished. I highly recommend this to anyone. Great job mr buncakes and I hope you continue this sometime in the future.2012-01-12 20:24:00

Thanks Damaz! I didn't get a chance to see if it worked but I may have solved that respawn bug you mentioned.

As for those who mentioned concerned about the soldier to gekko ratio, I've begun work on squeesing another enemy soldier section and improving the existing areas containing soldiers. Hopefully when I sort it out you should be able to complete the level without firing a single shot!

Hey what are the guns your using made of? I was just wandering because I've noticed it can't be a thin layer as sometimes you walk past them and the gun doesn't get caught.2012-03-08 19:24:00
