Do People Not Like LBP1 Levels? :o

Archive: 15 posts

I know, I know, LBP1 is the great predecessor of the game most of us play here today, but lately I've noticed people disliking levels for an extremely ridiculous reason; because it was made in LBP1! Today, the same person who loved my new LBP2 level disliked my extremely old LBP1 level. He said this word for word: "Good...but obviously LBP1." Uh, durrrr? I PUBLISHED it in LBP1, guy. So he said it was good, but he didn't like it because it was LBP1? Wow. It's not just my level. There are tons of LBP1 levels that I like that people dislike because it was made in LBP1. I'm pretty sure people like LBP1, but really? Do you think that some people think that LBP1 has gone to complete garbage?

The LBP1 levels that were good when I played LBP1 are still good (well, I say that, but LBP2 made some of them awful, mine included ;-, but I think everyone just assumes the good creators all migrated to LBP2 and left the bad ones on LBP1, hence anything that comes out of LBP1 must be made by these bad creators. Whether this is true or not I don't know, however.2012-01-07 21:41:00

Nope, played some awesome levels yesterday with a freind. Checked back on them, the majority were LBP1. It doesn't make levels any worse.

/offtopic in 3.2.1:
but, I hve noticed that certain patches and stuff can break levels, CompherMC's "All mine!" for example...and even the LBP2 made "rio Dance off".
Yeah, that's all I've to say ^^

I like LBP1 levels (the good ones of course). They feel different. Not worse, just different. Kind of like the difference between listening music from a CD or a vinyl disc. You know the music from a CD is clearer and the vinyl will get all used up losing quality after some years, but there's some kind of old-school magic and nostalgia about the scratch sounds the needle makes when grinding the vinyl disc. It makes the music feel more lively and real, just like a good LBP1 level has a more "handmade" feel about it than a LBP2 level.2012-01-07 23:18:00

My thoughts exactly,I enjoy that old piston logic, use of rockets, and handmade enemies.

Honestly I think some LBP1 levels are actually better than some LBP2 levels 2012-01-08 09:05:00

Bouncepads made in LBP1.... They're the right stuff. A piece of wood on a piston....2012-01-08 14:22:00

And logic that was so confusing you prayed nothing could go wrong because you'd never be able to back track and fix it.

First thing I did when I got LBP2 was to make all my old levels exclusive to LBP1, and I would never think of letting them loose in LBP2 without a serious makeover.

I suppose some people feel that the creator could have made the effort to update their old levels, while others enjoy the nostalgic, old school vibe of them. It's a similar division of opinion to when George Lucas revamped the original Star Wars trilogy. Some saw the new CGI as an improvement, while others would have gleefully ripped Lucas' head off for the sacrilege of giving eyelids to Ewoks.

If you had remade your levels in LBP2: "BS! The Space Assassin shot first!"

Yay, another Han Solo Shot First fan ! Seriously though, I hate to say that I don't think I have any LBP1 level anymore. I deleted all of them one by one over time. I matured and realized they were terrible. I want to come back and make at least one good old LBP1 level, but my strength lies in LBP2 logic.2012-01-14 17:17:00

To be completely honest, I like LBP1 better. When it lost it's "Hand made" feeling in LBP2 it took most of the glamour away for me. Dont get me wrong, I still love making levels in #2 with great ease, but I really miss when logic was still dark matter and Two way switches and people actually put time, effort, and creativity into making their NPCs out of cardboard, instead of slapping down a sackbot and dressing it up.
However, anyone who rates a level badly because its made in LBP1 needs to remember that not everyone moved on, Im sure some people feel the same way as said above, but took it more seriously and didnt get LBP2.

I enjoy LBP1 just as much as I enjoy LBP2, and booing a level because it's in LBP1? That's ridiculous. That's like smashing your PS2 to bits because "it's old" and you moved on, even though you have a lot of fun experiences with it and it was what lead you up to getting your PS3. Ridiculous, just ridiculous. What would LBP2 be without LBP1, NOTHING, absolutely nothing, it wouldn't even exist. Now I don't know if that person didn't play LBP1, and he doesn't know the dramatic difference between the two (because that may be the case) but it still doesn't make sense.

Ridiculousnessness.........

I still enjoy my fave LBP1 levels. but unlike some people i don't miss LBP 1 whatsoever. LBP is a game creator to me. not just a cut-out cardboard land with random toys tossed in. so the more we can create with it the better IMHO. though i can and do still enjoy them types of cut-out ETC looking levels but i honestly don't only love LBP for them types of handmade looking levels. ...but honestly thank goodness for sackbots, i was wanting something just like them the whole time since day-1 i had LBP1. *mew2012-01-28 20:56:00

I don't have any LBP1 levels because I started out with LBP2. I think people hate LBP1 levels because the amount of copied and no effort levels give LBP1 a bad name. I think its not all LBP1 levels are bat but the majaority of them are. but there are still new LBP1 levels that are still able to impress.
