FarCry 2

Archive: 18 posts

Hey anyone get FarCry 2 for Christmas? It has an incredible setting in an unnamed African nation. Its an open free roaming world where you can complete missions and travel anywhere you want in a huge 50 kilometer radius filled with incredible sights.

The Game got good reviews all around but is criticized for its less than compelling story, but that doesnt bother me in the least. I love just doing the missions you are set out on just to try different tactics for completeing them and discovering new and beautiful areas (did I mention the game is beautiful?)

The story is pretty simple, A mysterious arms dealer known only as the Jackal has supplied guns and ammo to soldiers on both sides of a Civil war. You are an assassin of sorts set out to work for both factions and gain info about the Jackal and try to hunt him down and kill him.

You can go try and complete a mission however you want, If you are set out to destroy a convoy you can hide in a bush and wait for the truck to pass by, or snipe out the driver and throw a grenade under, or even set roadside bombs and let the problem take care of itself.

If you are set out to kill a certian individual you could shoot a flare around him and his men and watch them burn, then snipe the stragglers. Or wait till the cover of night and go in and kill your assignment with a silenced pistol.

That freedom is what makes the game so fun. I reccomend it to anyone who enjoys shooters AND freedom.

Yeah its also a 30+ hour campaign.

And the game can get a little repetitive sometimes with the secondary missions you do to unlock new weapons, But if you try out different tactics on the same type of mission and experiment with the weapons a lot it rarely feels repetitive

Being playing it all today. Not too far into it, but my god it really does feel awesome taking down a whole camp Rambo style with your machete. It's possible 2008-12-28 16:46:00

Haha. Freedom? You can't actually free roam, because whenever you go somewhere you get ambushed by crazy villagers. There's a total lack of freedom in Far Cry.

It's an overhyped, lacklustre game.

Just my two cents

I like that it keeps you on your toes, random encounters just add to the immersion.

Personally my only gripes with the game is how far between save points can be and that the scenary, although it is set in Africa, never really diversifys from brushes and rocks.

The map editor could have been better. (read: They should have tried to make it as much like Sandbox 2 as possible (from Crysis, the same makers))2008-12-28 17:54:00

I understand your points. And if i seem exited by the game its just because it feels perfect for me. Ive always loved the african setting in general.

The guard posts that are at pretty much every intersection can get annoying, but ive found you can make the game more interesting by trying different tactics to take out the guards

Seconded, especially on the overhyped and lacklustre. There are some good points, but for me it was best summed up by ages between missions and it wasn't interesting getting there, average firefights, even when fighting with fire, and overall, personally not worth buying. But, that's personal opinion for you, and I'll slink off now to my copy of Fallout 3.

I agree with you on that, the constant scuffles and Malaria act to make me feel like it's too "real" so to speak. The Malaria does nothing other than annoy and I find it does not have its place, and the enemy guard posts that spot you so easily while spotting them can be a chore cost me my interest in the Story mode.

That being said, I LOVE THIS GAME! Lol why you ask after I basically pointed out all the reasons I don't like it? Because of the multiplayer. I play it every other night at most! It's just well balanced, the people playing are usually pretty cool and the user maps are great. I made a few myself, and I'm often hosting matches with some of my maps and other awesome user maps. So if anyone here has Far Cry 2 and like to play online, just send me a friend invite, the matches I host always turn out into lots of fun, promise I'll be inviting you too Gondito, now that I know you have it :hero:

Also, today i was playing and I had to meet My only buddy, Josip, in an oasis type area, and I didnt know if there would be enemies on the way, so I took out my sniper and I was closing in on Josip, and I saw an enemy so I sniped him, and i closed in, and I was like "wtf? only one enemy? and wheres Josip?"

and then it dawned on me I KILLED JOSIP!!!!! I was so sssss-ss-sad!!! so now i have no buddies =(

Why?

You had to drive for ages to get anywhere and the roads were so narrow that stealth and exploring were imposible I actually thought it would be really good but it wasn't fun at all

Its a matter of opinion, I love driving around in my Jeep. sometimes into the middle of a guard post and flippin back into the turret and just gunning the crap out of anyone. or waiting till a couple *** driving at me trying to run me over and just shoot the driver with a sniper, then sniping out the turret guy. its a rush becuase they are heading right towards me.
