The Night Before X-MasCaptain-Rule
Twas the night before Christmas...
Hey everyone, I FINALLY got my level working. This level was started way back in November... of 2010. I had it ready and published it in november 2011, but something broke and I've been busy fixing it for a while. The level is quite short actually and gave me a ton of grief. I have had the thermo maxed for 90% of the create time and nearly everything has completely broken numerous times. Some things don't work all the time and sometimes things happen in an odd way, but it works (most of the time).

The level is a two part boss battle, and that is it. I originally started the level for a contest (Boss Battle Blitz if I remember correctly) and it spun wildly out of control, so I couldn't publish it in time. It is technically a christmas themed level, so pretend its Christmas time, you crazy younguns. The level itself is meant to be somewhat of a surprise, so I won't post or link to pictures. Though if someone takes some screenshots and sends them to me, I may make a spoiler tag and include them. I'd also like to ask that no one else spoil it for others, please don't specify the plot/characters unless it is within a spoiler tag as well.

A couple of things to note: I put two arrows pointing to safe spots during the first section. These two spots are not entirely safe. Spot number one, the doorway overhang thingamajig, does not protect from bombs. Spot number two, the front most part of the gun emplacement, is angled so if you just stand on it you will slide and fall into the gas. Also, spot number two is not safe from enemy's gun.

I hope everyone enjoys this level, I think it's fun and I had a blast creating it (except the million corruptions, broken pistons, disobedient emitters and wonky bolts). I plan to fix major problems should any occur, but minor things will probably be left alone (seeing as I'm kind of tired of dealing with this level and want to move on).

If anyone needs help I'll throw in a mini guide on what to do. I've been staring at the level so long that everything is obvious to me and I've had nobody to test the level. Thanks everyone, enjoy.

Played your level... It's awesome. Made in Futurama style!
Here's the promised review:

The Goods:
- The corner editing was perfect!
- Great use of stickers
- Epic Santa Robot Boss Fight
- Awesome cut-scenes (maybe you could even win the Crafty Cut-Scene Contest)
- Sound effects

The Bads:
- At the start with the logo there should be an information that I have to press [R] or something...
- Some of the camera zones didn't fit
- The ship kinda glitched you know...

The Most Awesome:
- The Santa chasing part was Epic!

Overall Rating: :star::star::star::star::star: + <3 (This level is truly awesome)

Now I see why did it take that much time to finish it.

It's great to see you again captain rule! It's been like a year O_e

But oh my word your level is amazing. It's always awesome to take a break from all the casual platformers created nowadays, and this is the most original concept I've played since gradius. The visuals are breathtakingly amazing and I absolutely loved the futurama/santa characters! Great job. I hope you continue creating! :star::star::star::star::star: <3

Thanks everyone. I thought this level might be fun, if not in gameplay at least the concept itself would be nice. The unique use of the "waterfall glitch" was especially exciting to me. I was happy to have made a life bar for the ship, just couldn't quite get the reward right for beating santa. I had a good and bad ending originally, but they both broke a lot, so I settled on one ending.

Originally I had made freely moving arms for santa, but that became a real pain as they were far too difficult to control. After that I settled on emitted arms, though I could never really get them to sync well. Even now things will sometimes get skipped or emit at the same time.

After all of the grief, I had something usable so I published. I can't help but feel it is a bit unfinished, but I know that I won't ever get anything else done if I keep working on this one. I have other projects to complete for lbp psp. I even got the digital version, during the giveaway from sony, so I can play on the vita.

So to answer anyone wondering, I am still creating.

This is a really great level! Not a suprise really as all your levels are.

Good Tings
- Futurama Characters
- Evironments
- Santa-bot, obviously

Not so Good Tings
- Santa-bot's different arms were sometimes out of sync.
- The chase could've been longer or harder or something.

Overall:
:star::star::star::star::star: & <3

Hello El Capitan!!

VJ here!

This is an amazing level with your visual style on full display. The characters are always that one of a kind , and you do it so well.

This is one the most ascetically astounding levels I have played on psp, but that comes as no surprise coming from you.

Gameplay was tight too, with the bosses, I can never do a good boss, so I always appreciate someone who can do one well, and you did it great.

A hearty heart from VJ!!! <3

wait, is this the real VJ or his niece? If VJ, will you be coming back to the spotlight team? We'd love the help!

Anyway, great to hear you are still creating Captain Rule, I will play and leave some feedback sometime

Thanks Jonze, it is always great hearing from you. Glad to see you enjoyed my level. I was seriously hoping that people would enjoy my level, but I thought that it being so short would really bother people.

@ricky, hope you enjoy it.

Thanks schark/val. It was a blast (most of the time) making the level.

@ valmassoi, I was really proud of how I used the waterfall glitch. My only problem is that I spent a ton of time trying to line up the star stickers in order for the transition to be smooth, but I just couldn't do it.

Sorry about the time it took to respond, I've been somewhat busy and haven't really been online.

@woodburyraider (always thought it was woodburyrider, mine=blown), that's fine. I couldn't expect everyone to play it, especially with the community winding down.

Also, forgot to say that I'm hard at work on a new level and it is coming along much faster than my others usually do. I admit that I can be incredibly slow in what I do, at work (elementary/primary school) I decided to make a paper bag hand puppet. It literally took me a month. Though it came out really awesome.

The things you learn every day, just like the proper use of the everyday phrase you use every day.

I thought the level was awesome, short, and detailed. I've always struggled with squeezing in longer levels due to my perfectionist attitude with visuals and every little detail, so I understand how tough it is to create a long masterpiece. Great job all around here. :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3
