Hypothetical
Archive: 11 posts
I've heard of certain skilled creators from the community that have gotten jobs as level designers from outsourced companies. Would this be something you should strive for? What if they contacted you with a job but it paid less then the job you have now? Could you turn it down? What if it mean you would have to pack up and move to another country? Would you do it? Btw no one has contacted me its just a hypothetical question. | 2012-01-02 18:34:00 Author: CENTURION24 Posts: 266 |
Hmmm tricky... On the one hand it would be great, but my friend, not saying who, is one of the people you mentioned and they seem to be exhausted with lbp. I'd prefer not to loose all my passion but saying that I have met some of the lbp greats through them and thier game studio played through some of my levels and liked them... that was good enough for me. Anyway if I got into games design I would want to do story creation... not level design, but thats just how I roll. So just to conclude, although at a glance it looks cool, at this time I'd rather say no. However a good question none the less. | 2012-01-02 18:42:00 Author: ForgottenEnigma Posts: 1414 |
Though it might be enticing, I could never do it. For one I think I would get bored with it and totally burnt out. I find LBP a fun diversion, much like a cool hobby, and not really a way of life. The rest would be it simply would not pay enough to cover my expenses there as well as the ones I already have here. I already have a mortgage, utilities, and other bills I have to pay every month. Not to mention the travel expenses to get there and get set up just to live daily. ...and there is no way on earth I could ever live my girlfriend behind. ..so no, as exciting as it might seem to some, I would pass in a heartbeat. I applaud those that have, been in the right position to make it work, and also love working there. I just don't think they (the outsourced companies of Mm) could ever afford what a normal full time job I am qualified for pays me as well as cover my expenses for living there. | 2012-01-02 19:02:00 Author: jwwphotos Posts: 11383 |
Since they're moving away from lbp I dont think they'll be hiring anyone else, so you cant really strive to get hired. :/ | 2012-01-02 22:28:00 Author: Bremnen Posts: 1800 |
Tarsier Studios now owns LBP. I would try to get hired there. | 2012-01-02 23:35:00 Author: L1N3R1D3R Posts: 13447 |
If there was an option for moving up (they would send me to school for programming, or let me intern as a project manager or something), then I might consider it. Otherwise, no need to leave my current job for a dead end job. Not that it would be an option for me. I'm in the Air Force, not like I can just decide to leave. | 2012-01-03 18:08:00 Author: CYMBOL Posts: 1230 |
It is an idea that I have been pondering over myself as well. My heart says YES, but my mind has the last say in it. Level design at Tarsier, as far as I can/am allowed to tell is only a temporary job and not something you'd have to expect to make a decent salary with. That is a reality most adult people have to take into account. However, if you are a youngster with no big (financial) responsibilities going on, can spare the time and are passionate about LBP, then do it for a great experience. The least you'd be getting out of it would be a great holiday together with people who share your passion. | 2012-01-03 18:28:00 Author: Antikris Posts: 1340 |
I was actually a creator who received an email of interest for a job building LBP levels. I turned it down - I just don't have the circumstances to do it, and I'm pretty sure I would be making less. If I were single and didn't own a home I probably would have gone for it, though. | 2012-01-03 21:06:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |
Besides, my genius could not be contained in the confines of a standard LBP story level. I must be free to create my own way! Seriously though. I really like just doing my own thing. I really wouldn't be interested. | 2012-01-03 23:39:00 Author: CYMBOL Posts: 1230 |
I tink it be amazing and even some more mazing. Maybe like get to look at Jackofcourse every day and stare into his eyes and smile at his level and his cute hat. | 2012-01-04 15:20:00 Author: Batman Posts: 8 |
I'd leap at the oppurtunity, as long as the oppurtunity arose once I had finished college (which is soon enough! 5 months!). | 2012-01-04 17:26:00 Author: croissantbuncake Posts: 572 |
