Is there a way to go with other people every time?

Archive: 14 posts

There's the "Quick" option which sends you to a random stage, there's the Story option where you can try to find other people in the story stages,..

But the Quick option sometimes just sends you alone to a stage. Is there an option to where I always go with somebody else, or is that it?

I say you just toss the 'Quick' play out of the window. In fact, once you've 100%ed and aced all the levels in Story Mode, you won't really ever want to revisit. lol If you're looking to play with people on your friends list, the best thing for you to do is go to your friends on the Info Moon to find out which ones are playing LBP, and send a message to whoever you want to play with a message. Heck, you could just join them in the level that they're playing and talk to em there.2008-12-28 03:23:00

So... There's not really a way to just play with other people that I don't know?

And I don't really have any friends that actually have LBP, so...

Well, first off: The 'Add Me!' Thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=5116). Plenty of Happy Gadders there looking for people to play and make friends with.

Sure there is! It may not have the best success rate, but you can find a level you want to play, and select Play Online. At times you'll start off by yourself and will play until others will join (which is why playing Story Mode is not the best way of playing with others, as they always have the No Entry Posts at the beginning of every level), but you're sure to find someone to play with.

...But... There isn't just a "find person in stage" option.

... I'd better add some people, I guess.

That's such a shame, though. The times I did have 3-4 people on stages (usually on a Story Mode stage: Boom Town comes to mind), it was incredibly fun and so awesome.

You can do it if you select Play Online when you choose a stage. You aren't guaranteed other people though.

Also, have you noticed a number above some stages? That's how many people are playing it online. It can give you a good indication about whether you'll find someone or not.

I am having trouble following what the original poster is asking, but this might help...

If you meet random people online and enjoy their company, but the disappear or you have to move on before you can add them to your friends list...

Go to the XMB > Friends > Players met

This will list all the players you have met recently online, including in places like LBP. If you remember their name roughly from a stage, you can find the specific information here on this list. This list will show what game you met the player in, for example, Little Big Planet, but it won't show which stage specifically you met them in.

In LBP itself, if you want to remember someone's name, press L1. It will show all the players names so you can try and remember them and take notes if necessary.

You can then send that person an add freind request. It might be wise though to include a message saying where you met them and the great time that you had though. It may come across as odd if you send a friend request from a random name that they cannot recall meeting and no information about them. They might have met 50 people that day and have no idea who you specifically are.

So something like "Hey [playerXYZ] I had a great time in Boom town yesterday. I was that guy with the huge pipe on his head who kept dying. Anyway, I was wondering if we could team up again some other time, so I thought I might send you a friends request so we can keep in touch".

Of course, word the request to how you speak, but hopefully you get the idea.

Okay... But what is XMB?

And uh. How do you add friends, lol.

XMB is the cross media bar, the interface the PS3 button uses when you press the PS button on your controller.

If you go all the way to the right, you will see a section called "Friends". One of the options is called "Add Friends".

Right. I got the PS3 on Christmas, and I can't seem to find the "Basic stuff you should know if you own a PS3" information.

Thanks though.

It's okay. I did not know the interface was called the XMB or cross media bar until a month ago as well. It's just a short hand label. I hope it all makes sense and you can better use your PS3 though! 2008-12-29 06:57:00

Well, I guess instead of making a new post, I'll just post my other questions here too.

1. Say I want to make a platform that's NOT made of Dark Matter go side-to-side like a typical platformer platform. Do I use a stiff piston? Will that hold it if there's nothing on the other side? Is it so strong it'll support the platform with ease?

2. Rubble. Like the stuff at the beginning of the Meerkat level, stuff that crumbles, hinders your ability to run, and you can get buried by it. How do I make this stuff? Do I just like, make a bunch of oddly-shaped pieces and put them in a pile?

3. I noticed on some levels that, when you walk over to something, an object might fall out of the sky or appear in some other manner. Like, when I went to this one level, I went to this big tower, and a friendly ninja fell out of the sky, saying he fell off the roof (lol). It's not an emitter because it only appears once, so...?

4. Some levels have "boss" monsters, where if you kill them, the path leading to the exit appears. How do you make it so that when a monster dies, it opens the way further, or triggers a switch somehow? I've seemingly tried a bunch of various things and can't find a solution.

5. Oh yeah, almost forgot. How do you change the camera angle? Such as being chased by a giant boulder, or in the Burning Forests when you rode the cows into the alligator mouth.

So many questions... let me see...

In the future I'd recommend posting these sorts of questions in the "Help" section of this forum, people are more likely to answer them there.

1. Say I want to make a platform that's NOT made of Dark Matter go side-to-side like a typical platformer platform. Do I use a stiff piston? Will that hold it if there's nothing on the other side? Is it so strong it'll support the platform with ease?

Usually a piston like you are describing will do the job. For a "typical platform", you have to jump from something to something. So that will mean you can attach the platform to the thing you are jumping from, or vice versa.

2. Rubble. Like the stuff at the beginning of the Meerkat level, stuff that crumbles, hinders your ability to run, and you can get buried by it. How do I make this stuff? Do I just like, make a bunch of oddly-shaped pieces and put them in a pile?

Pretty much. I think the Meerkat level makes them out of dissolve so they don't hamper movement too much.

There was likely some disolve material held up by dark matter that the ninja was resting on, and a hidden sensor that you triggered which made the dissolve dissolve.

4. Some levels have "boss" monsters, where if you kill them, the path leading to the exit appears. How do you make it so that when a monster dies, it opens the way further, or triggers a switch somehow? I've seemingly tried a bunch of various things and can't find a solution.

Put a magnetic key on the boss, put a magnetic switch within range of the key (so likely having a large sensor area). Put the switch on inverted, and then hook it up to the door. That should do it.

5. Oh yeah, almost forgot. How do you change the camera angle? Such as being chased by a giant boulder, or in the Burning Forests when you rode the cows into the alligator mouth.

Well, there is a camera zone tool hidden among the tools in your popit menu. I think it's on the third page. I suspect this tool would be on the bolder or other moving object so it keeps holding the camera position. Just remember to adjust the pan and zoom and so on, and keep the zone large enough to have all possibilities of where the player should be when the camera angle is changed.

In answer to your 3rd question, I just want to point out that it COULD be an emitter. You can set the emitter to only emit one object, and make it last for an infinite amount of time.
But Elbee's method also works

Also, I'd love to see an option (maybe instead of quickplay) that will stick you in a random level with someone else. But in the meantime, just use the little numbers above each number and hope
