Top-Down RPG? :/

Archive: 6 posts

I've searched all over the web and looked everywhere and asked around but i cannot find out how to make a top-down level. /: primarily an rpg. if anyone could give me any clues any hints or how to make one, that'd be great.

Okay, I'm editing and updating my question because I learned some information. I learned the ability to create an rpg game inside lbp2 comes from the use of the Controlinator and that you control a sackbot remotely. I also learned that the layers or ground, or w.e. is not changing, it's merely your perception that's changing. You appear to be walking across the ground but you're actually moving up and down and across the wall. What I want to know now is, first of all, how do you create the appearance of the sackbot walking along the wall? Second of all, in the rpg's where you fight with a sword, but it appears to be made of light- would that be an emitter emitting a hologram of a sword with a tag on it? And the monsters, enemies have a tag sensor on them with a counter, mimicking health or hp? Any information, answers or help that ANY of you can provide would be GREATLY appreciated.

In order to make the bots look top down you stick them in the controlinator and change the sitting style (I cant remember what its called) and attach movers to it.

For the sword you could emit the attack or you could wobble bolt it to the bot and turn on the tag when you swing.

Here is a video about health bars (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXJzQrsGxpc)

Lol top downs are actually very easy to create, the problem afterwords is making the scener look exactly how you want it, you can design pretty much anything you want pretty easy, if you want to make it look really good though you will need to use the background glitch very extensively, i recommend pookachoo's version.2011-12-30 03:17:00

In a completely non negative way I would recommend starting small. Don't just 'make' an RPG, build a large flat surface in the back layer, then put a thick block on it. Play with the layer switching with movers to work out how to 'jump' up onto the block, and then 'fall' back off.

THEN start looking into animating hologram or sticker panel to make a sword swipe.
THEN work out how to create clipping so you can't walk through stuff and the sword hits things
THEN look at health bars etc.

Tyranny, i don't really have a problem when it comes to scenery I'm a pretty creative person, it's the mechanic of things I have yet to get a grasp on.
And Mr. Fusion, thank you!
