Crash Bandicoot

Archive: 4 posts

Hi, everyone. Been a while since I've posted, mainly lurking...but I got out the old PSOne the other day and played myself some Duke Nukem, Tomb Raider, Oddworld, MediEvil...but one game got my nostalgia rush running so high that I felt LittleBIGPlanet was a bit lame all of a sudden. Which one was that?

Crash Bandicoot, of course!

So I wondered to myself, "Why do the new Crash games suck so hard?" Well, I did some research and found out that Crash no longer belongs to Naughty Dog (the original company behind Crash). This, apparently, was commonplace knowledge, but what's more, Crash was never owned by Naughty Dog in the first place!

In fact, Crash belonged to Universal until mid-2005. Naughty Dog never owned Crash, despite being his creators! The story goes that Naughty Dog had this great game on their hands, but they lacked the funds to publish it on their own. Sony didn't wanna risk it. So they searched and searched, eventually landing on Universal. Too bad they went with the most evil publisher they coukd find.

So they got a contract for three PSOne games (they released four). After that, Crash went through a variety of developers, going multiplatform and being exploited by all its worth by Universal. Eventually, Crash landed in the hands of Activision, who decided Crash needed a redesign and ruined it further.

So what's the point of this thread? Two reasons: Plain old nostalgia, and a passive reminder that Crash needs to return to his roots. How will it be done? Petitions, protests? Perhaps it'll get to that...Anyway, all I'm trying to get across is that this is a little Crash history lesson, and that Crash needs to be in the hands of people who know him, and that this has all the things that make Crash Crash. That's it.

Loved Crash 2+3+CTR. Wanted to love Crash 1, but ya know, that save/load system..
If someone gets a hold of it, and understands what made Crash great (humor/design/gameplay) it could come back imo.

I believe one of the main problems is that Crash is thought of as a kid's game; not even something like 12-16, but more like 6-10. This most likely has something to do with the rather childish humor found in the previous three games. I think part of this could be solved by bringing back the old designs and formulas. Perhaps making it PS exclusive wouldn't be bad either, after all, Sony uses Crash 1 to advertise their tablets and Xperia Play.2011-12-29 16:09:00

I hate the new ones, but CTR and 1-3 were fantastic. It started to go down hill when they hit the PS2 though. Exept for crash tag team racing. That one was good.2012-01-05 16:49:00
