Acting Lessons :3

Archive: 12 posts

I'm a big fan of the whole acting thing in LBP (Usually you'll find my character with a fearful expression plastered across his face like he knows something bad's going to happen to him ), and I took notice of this quite early on: When you're using the Limb buttons to move your character's arms about, holding them down lightly keeps their hands in their normal poses, while holding them down fully changes the finger posing somewhat.

I figured I'd document the different emotions and how the hands are affected by pressure on the Limb buttons, for budding machinima makers and folks that just like acting on LBP:

Normal
------

Light hold: Your sackperson holds their hands out normally. Fun for waving at other Sackpeople.

Full Hold: Your sackperson points with his fingers. Useful if you want to point out something.

Happy
------

Light hold: Your sackperson holds his hands out, palms facing the camera. Much easier way of waving.

Full Hold: Your sackperson gives the "Peace" or "V" sign with his fingers. Groovy, man.

Angry
-----
Light hold: Your sackperson holds his hands out, knuckles facing the camera. Nothing too impressive here.

Full hold: Your sackperson clenches his fists, ready to hit someone.

Sad
----
Light hold: Your sackperson holds their hands out, fingertips facing the camera. Pointing your arms downwards makes their depressed slouch go even deeper.

Full hold: Your sackperson sort of clenches their fists. Held diagonally down, facing outwards from your sackboy, this creates a good effect for the maximum sadness emotion (i.e. bawling their eyes out).

Scared
-------

Light hold: Your sackperson holds their hands up slightly, palms facing the camera. Great for a "Don't hit me!" pose.

Full hold: Your sackperson's hands start shaking along with the rest of the body. If that doesn't make your Sackperson look cute I don't know what does. X3

If anyone else has any good tips for would be actors and moviemakers on LBP, feel free to share them!

((If there's already a topic like this I do apologise ^^; ))

Also if you didn't know, if you have the sock puppet on, using this can make its mouth move.2008-12-28 00:09:00

Mention hitting and facing/not facing the "camera". That means explain where to look when interacting with things.

When you look scared and walk slowly, you creep sideways.

Hey cool. I didn't know there was a sock puppet item as a matter of fact. I'll have to find it, wherever it is. XD

Haha, great list. I noticed all that except for the sock puppet. I'll have to go try that out now!

...random idea this just gave me: someone should make a level with a stage, and you can pull levers to put different, reasonably basic, themes on the stage, and then the level invites you to make your own play and film it
Don't know if that would work so well though...

For the normal full hold, you can direct it so that it's pointing at the screen, meaning you!

"Uncle Sam wants you!" (American joke XD)

I actually only noticed this yesterday. The little sackperson in the tutorials always did the "Peace Sign" and I was like "Wtf how does he do that." So I was randomly being happy about something and decided to flail my arms about, and upon closer inspection I discovered two of my fingers were out instead of the usual "pointer". So I experimented with all the other ones.

Through my studies I've concluded that the Pirate Hook... Does nothing. >.>
