Tools?

Archive: 16 posts

Okay so I downloaded this one physics based 2D game, called Phun! I went on the forum just to go through all the creations that were made within it, and I must say...these people are geniuses! The tools presented in that game are so simple and limited that you'd think it's impossible to make really great things with it...but people made crazy things like working tanks, working handguns, laser rays, helicopters, breakable cars etc... It's quite amazing!

So...My question to you is this:

What are all the (known) tools in LBP?

Examples of tools in Phun are:

- Create spring to attach from one object to the next.
- Glue objects onto each other or the background.
- Create hinge.
- Motorize hinge.
- Map buttons to move hinges when the user wants (controls).
- A move tool for moving things during the simulation, and another move tool for moving objects when the simulation is paused.
- Scale and Rotate tools.

Among a few other things...

So again, the question stands: What are all the (known) tools in LittleBigPlanet?

OFFICIAL LIST OF TOOLS

- Motors: Can move objects back/forward/fast/slow.
- Wheels: Move when pushed.
- Dark Matter: Sticks objects onto the background/mid air - Unaffected by gravity.
- Glue: Sticks two objects together.
- Switches (eg. magnetic, physical etc.): Opens/closes assigned mechanism.
- Complex triggers: Can be triggered by motion etc.
- Brains: Give assigned object (enemy) Artificial Intelligence (AI).
- Dissolve Tool Makes assigned object(s) disappear and/or reappear.
- Ticker tool: Allows players to paste stickers on any desired object, including the background and level itself.
- Upload tool: Upload via the Playstation Eye.
- Scale Tool: Re-sizes objects.
- Rotate Tool: Rotates objects.
- Move Tool: Moves objects around freely.
- Eraser Tool: Used to erase parts of or entire objects. Useful for shaping objects such as uploaded stickers (on cardboard)

Switches

- ?Button? ? This is like the button you might find on a fruit machine ? it requires pressure on it to operate it.

- ?Two way switch? ? A two position switch ? much like a light switch.

- ?Three way switch? - A bit like the two way switch , except it has a central position, and will spring back to centre when not being operated.

- ?Sensor switch? - This will become active when a Sackperson is close to it (you can alter the range) ? this is much like a traditional ?trigger? as used in many game.

- ?Sticker Switch? - Will become active when a particular sticker is applied on the object it is attached to.

- ?Grab Switch? - Detects that a sackperson is grabbing the object the switch is stuck too.

- ?Magnetic Key & Magnetic Switch? ? a bit like the sensor switch, except instead of detecting Sack persons, it detects color matched keys ? very very handy?

So again, the question stands: What are all the (known) tools in LittleBigPlanet?

Tough Question, but I'll give it a shot, anybody can feel free to add.

- Motors (Can move objects back/forward/fast/slow)
- Wheels (Move when puched)
- Glue and dark matter to stick objects to other objects/the background
- Retractable items (a rod attached to a platform, the rod can move back and fourth, as does the platform)
- Switches (Magnetic/physical etc)
- Complex triggers (not much know, but can be triggered by motion or other)
- Brains (Gives enemies an AI) and a dissolve tool (Makes that enemy dissapear/reappear)

- Music recognition tools
- Sticker tools/ PS EYE upload tools

Don't think i've seen hinges, but I think its fairlu safe to say they are there

Will add more if I think of more

Nice! These are great so far!

Should I edit the first post and add these, and then we can change the name of the thread once we have enough to make an official list?

Do it if you want, I don't mind, but the edited thread name won't change when your browsing through the site, but it doesnt matter because its just called 'Tools' right?

Alright I updated the first post...there are just two things in your list Malt that I didn't really understand...

What do you mean by Retractible Items and Music Recognition...?

The chips on music that allow you to make tunes, and there is also speakers that you can place throughput your level that play when your are in the proximity

retractable I mean sliding/ pulling to make platforms go back and fourth/ up and down. (Look at the bottom of the musroom platforms - see the rods dontrolling them?)

Theres also element tools and poisonous gas.
And for bulding, theres various shapes and materials, to place or cut.

Oh and now theres explosive tools (big rockets/bullets) And thrusters for cars etc

EDIT: Oh and theres a motion/proximity chip/trigger that lets you spawn items

That one went fairly unrealized, it opens up a few more options for me.

I know they've listed a horde of switches.

We have a set of ?switches? that can be wired up to various items;

?Button? ? This is like the button you might find on a fruit machine ? it requires pressure on it to operate it.

?Two way switch? ? A two position switch ? much like a light switch.

?Three way switch? A bit like the two way switch , except it has a central position, and will spring back to centre when not being operated.

?Sensor switch? This will become active when a Sackperson is close to it (you can alter the range) ? this is much like a traditional ?trigger? as used in many game.

?Sticker Switch? Will become active when a particular sticker is applied on the object it is attached to.

?Grab Switch? Detects that a sackperson is grabbing the object the switch is stuck too.

?Magnetic Key & Magnetic Switch? ? a bit like the sensor switch, except instead of detecting Sack persons, it detects color matched keys ? very very handy?

Oh but of course! To the Edit Mobile...again!

BTW...do you mind trying to find more tools...I've been too busy with homework and whatnot to update the list, so it died :/ I'd like to have a nice long list before Sam takes a look at it

The only one I know of that you don't have is the duplicate/clone tool.2008-08-20 12:34:00

Yes you do

When holding an object, or complex object, in create place it down using R3 instead of X and you'll stamp it down while keeping it in hand.

As for detailing other tools in the game, this information will be coming out gradually before launch so rather than give it all away now you'll just have to wait. You're doing a fine job so far however.
