Dipping back into Photoshop

Archive: 14 posts

It's been a while since I grabbed the old graphics tablet.. but after rifling through a pile of over 40 decent lbp plans and sketches tonight, I decided to start scanning them and get practicing again!

So I thought I'd post my work in progress. it's a portrait of muddledmuppet hubby and I worked on for a credits level (waaay in the future) not coloured as yet, just inked. 6 hours of work with the pen tool (yup - I'm THAT out of practice! couldnt remember any shortcuts or anything!) produced:

(Put it in spoiler tags because of size. hate breaking forums.....)

EDIT:

Portrait is finished! Whoop! Here's the finished article:

and for good measure, I'm learning how to use camstudio to record speedpaints. I started this recording about two thirds of the way through colouring. I'll add more if people seem interested

Wow, those are very nice! It looks so clean and smooth. You can put a lot of character into a single picture 2011-12-23 20:27:00

thanks sack still getting used to the pen tool (never used it all that much before...) but hopefully practice will help!

Edited the original post with the finished product, which you can also find here (http://rialrees.deviantart.com/#/d4jzu6u).

Really nice work there Rialrees

It's funny - I use Photoshop all the time but only ever for editing. I should really try using it as a drawing package.

Same here! I've been editing photographs with photoshop for about five-six years now, but have been very tentative in my experiments with painting/drawing with it.

here's another little fellow I cooked up earlier. Anyone who's played Printz may (or may not) recognise him

Sweet, i really liked that last time lapse video, funny comments btw

Just wondering, why photoshop?
Is it because you feel more comfortable with it? Stuff like this seems a lot easier to do in illustrator because you have far more control over your b?zier curves, but that might be a personal preference of me

keep on drawing!

cheers,
misty

Thank you! And I'd love to have some requests! The more practice I get the better really. I'm really getting into chibi style atm but anything you could suggest, i'd be happy to give it a shot

Thanks Captain I'm hoping to get a few more finished up soon. Been so hectic lately I haven't had the chance to look!

RE: Photoshop, erm... I guess it's just because I'm used to it. I do intend to give illustrator a whirl (for the lineart at least) as soon as I can, as I understand that it's design is based around vector style designs to begin with (I think... lol) so it makes sense to dip in there too. Photoshop is a bit of a comfort zone for me at the moment

I'm looking at paint shop sai too, not for beziers though - I want to start sketching freehand and get some real challenge in. I like the style of the drawings ive made so far, but I'd love to try my hand at some freehand stuff too.

Thanks everyone, you all just gave me a lovely little grin on me face
