Revenge of the Mighty Humbug

Archive: 4 posts

Humbugs are trying to destroy Chrismas and you have to stop them.

A good old platformer where you have to complete the level before time runs out and collect as many presents as possible to get points. There is also a small Boss fight at the end.

Hope you enjoy it.

I say, man, good show. This level was quite good and full of the Christmas Cheer. Here's an analysis for the curious elf:

Graphics

The level takes place in the rooftops of a town decorated for Christmas. Snow covers every surface and your way is lit by festive lights strewn all over the place. The buildings that you'll be scaling are a far cry from the glorified rectangles seen all to often in many urban community levels; that is to say, they look good. Your major enemies, oddly, seem to be mechanic beetles (explained in Gameplay) There are also a few pearly-teethed elves trapped in wrapping paper by the titular Humbug. When freed, the elves make a very impressive disappearing act punctuated by what appears to be stars flying away from the area.

Sound

The major theme of the level fits the lighthearted tone quite well. Every action made by the player results in a fun little trumpet noise or crowd gasp. Oddly, however, there seems to be a llama trapped in one of the buildings, as there is a constant bleating noise somewhere.

Gameplay

The gameplay in Revenge of the Mighty Humbug is quite varied. Over the course of the level, the player will use grabinators to place blocks as stepping stones, grapplers to, well, grapple, and a helicopter to eventually deal with the Humbug himself. All of these changes are what we come to expect as the Happy Gadders of LittleBigPlanet. The few enemies don't pose too much of a problem; these strange little mechanical beetles (Humbugs) are able to scale walls or simply sit on a roof and jump around pathetically. Jumping on a Humbug will take care of it, but the Terrible Gas that it constantly spits out will also take care of you.

Conclusion

Revenge of the Mighty Humbug is a nice, lighthearted escapade into the Christmas Spirit. It's gameplay is varied and long enough to keep one's attention, and the story is good for a light chuckle or two. I'd certainly recommend this for playing before Christmas.

I had so many ideas to make the story more interesting but the dreaded thermo stoped me as was getting started unfortunately.
