The level was quite good. Here's an analysis for any curious players: Graphics: The graphics are stellar, if you pardon the pun. The game is set in a starship, so naturally the visuals are geared towards the futuristic. The creator does an impressive job of placing and arranging the materials and light effects. It adds a nice 'epic' tone, but can get quite repetitive as the level progresses. The sound effects are basic platformer fare. Gameplay: There are a few hiccups in this area of the level. Some of the puzzles involved are very particular when it comes to precision. In one particular area, a cube that you have to transport to an upper floor can easily get stuck in the shaft and must be pushed, never pulled. If one attempts to pull the cube into the shaft, the mechanism for lifting it won't work and you must attempt to push it back out. The problem is that after a set time, the blue cube spawns a static gray cube right next to it that's meant to anchor it when the cube reaches the top of the shaft. When you attempt to push the cube out of the shaft, the gray cube will be spawned on the other side of the blue cube, making you stuck. http://i4.lbp.me/img/ft/7f4a7638db95bc36563d75be5a100c2c9d2d95cb.jpg Other than that, however, the game is very smooth and moves along at a steady pace. Players will make good use of grapplers as well as paint guns in the way of lowering themselves through treacherous security systems and shooting down security drones. There are also some minor puzzles that may take a couple of brain cells to solve. Story: There isn't much of a story. By that, I mean that there isn't a story; you're on a spaceship. Your Mileage May Vary on whether or not that's a bad thing. Conclusion: Alpha Aeon is a visually attractive level that plays nicely, with a few minor exceptions. I myself was impressed with the graphics, satisfied with the gameplay, and mildly bored with the sound. I didn't take a pick so will try to explain where I mean. You bounce up to a little room, go to the right, secure a paintgun. Now I have no choice but to go up and to the left, the way is blocked behind me. I bounce up and a turret is on the ceiling shooting plasma and a moving turret is going left and right on the ledge. I get killed here almost every time. The checkpoint should be an infinite life checkpoint as I died too many times and had to replay. I've put in a platform to the right so you can stay out of line of the turrets while you pick up the Paintgun. They didn't seem impossible when I 1st published but I died there loads this time through, thanks for spoting it. Working on glitch now where the robotic arm that opens a door using a battery has stopped working, the arm has stopped picking up the battery >.< So at the moment it leaves the battery and opens the door anyway. | 2012-06-29 18:29:00 Author: Zikan Posts: 14 |
I have to say I'm really impressed with the way you have stuck with this level and worked so hard to keep improving it. It's a genuine pleasure to play now. I love the the new lighting effects at the beginning and I'm so pleased I finally found how to access all those bonus bubbles near the start.
