Tips on making a Desert Enviorment?
Archive: 11 posts
I recently finished my Trilogy of levels, But since I'm on break I decided to start on my next project, It will be set in a desert, and a deserted ghost town in a desert. So my question for you is how would it be a good way to make a desert environment? Sand? Broken town pieces smashed into rubble in the ground? Any plant life? And help will be appreciated | 2011-12-21 18:08:00 Author: Unknown User |
Try Cactus, wooden plannk houses with letters fall off signs. gun-holes. Sand dunes, and sackbots. ....Don't put aliens in though....i'm srs. | 2011-12-21 18:15:00 Author: Valeview Posts: 1581 |
tumble weeds... cause they're awesome also... sticker panel mirages | 2011-12-21 18:53:00 Author: ForgottenEnigma Posts: 1414 |
If you have the sand material (think it's from the Pirates pack) make a large rectangle and take a snapshot of it. Place this snapshot on a large portion of sticker panel on a low opacity setting (again assuming you have it!) and then emit these from outside the view of the screen making them scroll along. It should create a convincing sandstorm effect. Or look terrible. Maybe fiddling around with layering, shapes and opacity settings could help make it look better. | 2011-12-22 02:41:00 Author: Xaif Posts: 365 |
Haha xD thanks guys I'll see if these things work x) | 2011-12-22 04:31:00 Author: Unknown User |
this may seem obvious but for the ground, using the 3D glitch to make sand material extend "endlessly" into the foreground/background would make for a perfect desert setting. if you do decide to do this, you might want to set up game cameras to angle slightly downward, so the ground doesn't cover half the player's screen | 2011-12-22 05:11:00 Author: harbingernaut Posts: 126 |
I've used really large rockets off screen, with yellow fog, and special lighting to create a heavy sand storm. Edit; I made a good stand storm in LBP1, but I don't remember if I glitched the rocket to make it super large, or you could simply make it as big as you want. There was one small issue with camera angle. It had to be pulled out. One last thing, i don't know how this looks in LBP2. | 2011-12-22 05:28:00 Author: CYMBOL Posts: 1230 |
I remember you, you're kingsofstreet's friend, and yeah I think I'll try that out, and also the 3D glitch for the ground, Thanks | 2011-12-22 06:50:00 Author: Unknown User |
Use the 3d layer objects to create a desert stretching to the horizon, using sand material. Add a touch of fog, some wind environmental sounds and you have a great start. | 2011-12-25 19:41:00 Author: Antikris Posts: 1340 |
How about an oase? Or gusts of wind passing by ( use emitters for this). Just a few ideas. | 2011-12-26 13:50:00 Author: AlPhAoMeGa81 Posts: 73 |
when i created a level set in a desert environment, I found making jagged triangles, or smooth curves all across the floor to be the most successfull effect. I also used the occasional seaweed turned upside down to look good as dying desert shrubs. Try just loading up my level http://lbp.me/v/sb190m, the effect I'm talking about is visable right at the start, I would recommend leavong it quickly though, as the level itself is beyond boring. | 2011-12-26 15:53:00 Author: Smudge228 Posts: 533 |
