Star Wars Pod Racer?

Archive: 11 posts

I've only had LBP for about a week but the past 3 days I've spent messing around with the lvl creating. Mostly Just trying out random veichles and contraptions. Then I had an idea to create a Pod Racer (from Star Wars). I thought it would be easy yet really nifty. I'm sure I'm not the only person who has thought of it but I couldn't find anything doing a search.
So far I made the cab and what would be the engines.

Next I made a glass rod, electrified it and put it between the 2 engines. (Not visable in image) Also used springs (set to stiff) as cables connecting the engines to the cab.

The only problem I'm having is when it comes to mobility. I'd like to some how make it hover when its not moving forward. Same way they do in the movie. I've played around with that for about 2hrs using rockets set at different strengths to try and make it hover but it didn't work out too well. If anyone has any ideas I would apperciate it.

If possible you could stuff it with some Pink Floaty (To reduce the weight) and Peach Floaty (To provide Lift) Experiment with amounts until it works2008-12-28 00:24:00

So the 2 colored floaty material actually has 2 different purposes? Thats something I hadn't messded around with yet. Never thought of it. I had thought about using the balloons in the same way. Kinda just hide them inside the frame of the racer so you wouldn't be able to see them. Thanks for the idea. I'm gunna try that out later and see how it works out.2008-12-28 09:17:00

Well, see here, Pink floaty stays floating in place until moved. If you're moving up a ramp with a pink floaty racer, the material would have to bump against the ramp before redirecting itself to go upwards. and then after the ramp smoothes out into even ground again the racer would continue in the direction the ramp put it.

Orange/Peach floats up, so it might be hard to get just the balance you need for it to hover, and you would encounter the same problem as the pink floaty.

Unless you wanna make a boring flat level :/

Yeah I came across all that just today while playing around with the types and such. I think I may have try a different aproach and settle for using something that will end up visable such as like a glass sled rig. With how costomizable that game is I guess it still has limitations. . .for now.2008-12-29 07:48:00

I know it's been a while but I finished my first Pod Racer.

It's not what I wanted but it still looks good and may come in handy sometime in the future. I've been working on something new, my first lvl finally. I dont want to say anything and get my hopes up on it since its only my first one. I'll post something about it later on in the proper area.

Did you manage to make it hand over the ground?2009-01-02 15:41:00

Looks good! Maybe adding a piston to keep it floating? I am working on the truck chase for Raiders and I am using the piston for the horse.2009-01-03 00:24:00

I never did get it to hover off the ground (and keep it that way at least). I used the basic glass under the engines to give it the appearance of being off the ground. Also allows it to slide nicely when in motion.2009-01-03 05:13:00

Now I see it on the last picture, didn't even notice... so are you creating the level for the race? Hope so.

Depending on the control scheme, have you considered entering this into the Set the Scene (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=6647) contest? You don't need to have a full blown level, the idea is to have fancy objects that do things with one button. This may qualify with a little bit of work. 2009-01-03 05:37:00
