There"s a little item (looks like a sign) that can be placed in a level that prevents any more online players from joining the game after the game leader has walked past that item. I've noticed that MM put it in all their levels, but not very many user created levels make use of it. What are your opinions on this item? Advantages and disadvantages?2008-12-27 11:22:00

I'm pretty confused with this item. I think it doesn't work, as I've been able to turn on another controller in mid-game in story mode. I've also joined a story level online where the host was long past the sign.
Anyway -

Advantages:
- Useful if there are small sections in your level that require more players. So you can't just turn on another controller mid-level, finish the section, and turn the controller off again. Though this could be a disadvantage depending on what you want.
- If your level has mechanisms that don't work for a certain number of players, it's also useful. For example - Level Start, sign, check how many players there are. If there are too many/not enough, then they can't go on.

I can't really think of disadvantages. I think it comes down to how the creator of the level wants it to be played.

What this device does is stop other people online joining your game without an invitation once you walk past this post.

This only really means something if you are playing online, and not "on your own".

You can still have other controllers activate mid-level, and you can still invite online friends into the level.

But it's basically there to stop random people coming in mid level and losing sense of the plot or what is going on.

Depends on the level. It makes it much harder to get into a party, as it were, because players coming in late will sometimes have to wait several minutes (10-20?), especially if the game leader is slow. Most of the time if I join a game like that, and will just end up watching the leader while waiting to join, I quit and look elsewhere.

I wouldn't use this on your level unless, as elbee23 said, you would lost sense of the plot i you came in late. I think it impedes online play so it's better not to use it if you can, imo.

I don't bother with this sign, if people don't want to miss some storyline then they should play it single play or wait for some others to join their game.

I don't see much advantages to this item, just mainly disadvantages.

Well, I like it, personally.

If you want to form a party, join a level and wait before the sign.

I always like a good story telling level, they would overall be my favourite level genre. To go part way through a level and not fully understand the trials and tribulations that the players have been through is a bad thing, in my opinion.

You know what, you're right actually. My previous post isn't actually very accurate...

Oh, I need to do that for mine (if there's any room left).
They're meant to be 1-player anyway. Thanks for the reminder!
